« Garland Likely To Decline Arbitration | Main | Rosenthal's Latest: Johnson, Cano, Peavy »
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick talked to Mark Sweeney's agent Barry Axelrod, who says his client will probably only play next year if a Major League deal is offered. Sweeney, 39, hit .130/.250/.163 in 108 plate appearances for the Dodgers while earning $600K plus incentives.
Crasnick says Sweeney could wind up working for XM Radio, MLB Network, or a San Diego station.

A really classy guy if he does hang them up finally.

Mark's Weenie. Good pinch hitter and a good guy in the clubhouse, but just don't borrow any pills from him.

He was completely worthless last year, but a good clubhouse guy, and perhaps could be a bench coach in the future.

Good idea for Mark. I cringed every single time I watched him come up to the plate for us last season. 0 for 20 with RISP. No good.

You've got to tip your cap to a guy who made a long career of pinch hitting. Seriously, when have you ever read an article that talked about Sweeney as anything other than a pinch hitter? He was the heir to Lenny Harris.

Trying to figure out what incentives Sweeney could have possibly earned last year with a historically bad season, even for a bench player? I'm sure one is make opening day roster but what are the others? Slug over .200? Don't die? Less than a certain number of bonehead plays? Play in the field once? Ah well. He had a good career, though.

One of the best pinch-hitters ever enough said.

Sweeney earned an extra $125k for making the opening day roster. If there were other incentives involved, they had to relate to not stabbing his manager or beheading an umpire.
Simply the worst player to stick on a roster all year last season.

"really classy guy if he does hang them up finally."
exactly, he brought more than just pinch hitting abilities.. not so much this year but still.
everytime the camera had a shot of him he always a had a great big smile on his face, so did everyone next to him.
