Looks like the White Sox have just added a new RHP and OF.

If KW signed these guys, that would be hilarious and awesome.

Yankees Needs: 5th Starter, CF
Get on it now Cashman

This story should read which team wants a relief pitcher and 4th outfielder who are older then they claim for several million dollars each.

The Rockies have a base in the Dominican Republic. They should get at least the pitcher, though in all honestly, the White Sox/Yankees will probably get both.

I'd like to see some more detailed scouting reports on both.
From what I've briefly read on Marti, his fastball sits in the 87-90 range, but he mainly relies on his secondary stuff to keep hitters off balance.

"I'd like to see some more detailed scouting reports on both."
agreed. since i heard of these guys about 10 seconds ago, i think maybe people should hold on before they through down the money

Marti looked un-hittable in the 2006 WBC. He was deployed as both a starter and closer. He is an interesting player but as for KW going after him I'm uncertain about.
The ESPN article threw some interesting numbers out there on Gomez. Lifetime average in Cuba was .331 and he has a lot speed. I say KW makes GOMEZ his new priority.

yeah and he has a really deceptive delivery with an exaggerated pause just before his stride.

Almost all MLB teams have a base in DR.

In other news, Scott Boras has decided- rather suddenly- that after all this signing hoopla, 'nothing sounds better than a Dominican holiday.' LOL

I could see the Pirates trying to get in on these guys. They have been doing a lot of obscure things this off season and this seems right up Hunington's alley.

DominicanYanks: True, but the Rockies actually have a lot of success there. Look at their 2007 World Series roster, it's full of those players.

The Rockies have done well with undrafted talent in Latin America recently (Jimenez, Corpas, Morales, Chacin). So, if Marti is really major league ready, I hope they look into it. They need as much depth as possible.

I would love for the Braves to get in on this. especially if they are ML ready. Gives Escobar a few friends so he stays happy without Bryan Pena. also gives the Braves a lead off option for the OF and it allows Shafer to stay in the minors some more for a bit more seasoning at AAA.
And we all know the Braves need as much pitching as they can get.
actually it would be funny in a way for the braves to sign both and flip them to the Padres

I think it would be funny if KW got out there and got the 2 spots we need from Cuba. So we could have 2 SP and 3 position players.

marlins can land them, if they spend some money,
fredi was your magic

The Pirates tried that route before with Herrera and Linares with disastrous results. Now that the most incompetent GM-Owner combo (Littlefield-McClatchy) of all time are gone I see Coonington (Coonelly-Huntington) spend that money on building the best minor league system of all time then wasting it on some Cubans.

"Don't the Yankees own Cuba?"
I think the White Sox own Cuba. :-)
Posted by: melonis rex | December 29, 2008 at 07:04 PM
It is not a must that they go to the D.R., but it will benefit them from a bargaining point of view.
Oh, and yes, the White Sox own Cuba.

Yea has soon as i saw the words "Defect" and "Cuba" i said, Whitesox.

That's the normal reaction. The young Cubanos hold Big Daddy Contreras in pretty high regard. He's a goddamn legend in Cuba...
no de béisbol, no hay trabajo!

Let's Go Kenny! Keep pulling them out of Cuban baseball and signing them!
