Dude...crazymany posts today. I can't keep up.

Tim,
could you please post Law's matches? It's just readable for ESPN insiders...
Posted by: Mowses | December 05, 2008 at 01:20 PM
This just in, Buster Olney says the Astros could trade Ty Wigginton for Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsly and Matt Kemp.
Posted by: NedCollettiClueless | December 05, 2008 at 01:21 PM
The Dodgers got the better end of that deal, ha.
Posted by: jlowrance | December 05, 2008 at 01:23 PM
What would it take for the tribe to acquire Wigginton?
Posted by: kjhill42 | December 05, 2008 at 01:29 PM
Richard Justice is a complete idiot.

If the Chin Lung Hu starts on a solid regimen of HGH, that solves the Dodgers SS situation.
Posted by: OedipusSC | December 05, 2008 at 01:42 PM
Well the Astros are trying to unload Ty, even if they don't want too.... We needing pitching ...
Posted by: elcaballofan4eva | December 05, 2008 at 01:47 PM
Mets should be in on Wiggy.
-was a fan favorite there in the past
-can hit lefties
-played LF a lot last year
-could play 2B if Castillo still struggles
-could play 1b if Delgado is version 07
Basically have Ty play Lf but also be a supersub. When Wiggy is needed at other positions a Tatis/Chavez or Pagan platoon should be good enough. Then spend all the money on pitching and forget about Ibanez or Manny.
Posted by: spieldogg | December 05, 2008 at 01:54 PM
kjhill, it would probably take Andy Marte and a low level pitching prospect to acquire Wigginton
Posted by: Brian | December 05, 2008 at 02:00 PM
I hope the Twins make a run at Wigginton rather than Atkins... the Rockies demands seem to be outrageous(Span and Slowey).
Posted by: MNRunLeft | December 05, 2008 at 02:02 PM
they need to make it happen.
Posted by: kjhill42 | December 05, 2008 at 02:08 PM
Yeah Span and Slowey ... WTMFH are they THINKING?!?!!
I would love Wiggington, solid hitter for average with a LOT LOT LOT of power. He has pop to all fields and he can mash lefties ... He'd be an amazing bargain too! Maybe Perkins or Humber package.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 05, 2008 at 02:11 PM
Yeah and Miggy isn't too bad at defense either, he is a fan favorite here too, not as big as el Caballo, Berkman, Oswalt, Pence but we do appreciate his hustle every time he played
Posted by: elcaballofan4eva | December 05, 2008 at 02:12 PM
Any chance Humber and Pride might be enough to get Wigginton?
Posted by: MNRunLeft | December 05, 2008 at 02:16 PM
I'd take Baker for Wigginton straight-up. He's really underrated and he's apparently grew up an Astros fan
Posted by: ARusonis | December 05, 2008 at 02:22 PM
I don't see the Twins dealing there #2 pitcher for Wigginton. I'd actually find it hard to believe the Twins would deal Liriano, Baker or Slowey this offseason.
Posted by: MNRunLeft | December 05, 2008 at 02:27 PM
I don't keep up with much minor league baseball... Can you tell me their first names too, so I can look up their stats.
Thanks.
Posted by: elcaballofan4eva | December 05, 2008 at 02:29 PM
Um that's the stupidest deal I've seen in a while.
No way the Twins trade Baker. People underrate him and think you can get him for chump change.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 05, 2008 at 02:30 PM
No need to get snippy, dude--I didn't say they WILL get Baker for Wiggy, just that I'd like to see it happen.
And also, I wouldn't consider a guy who put up an OPS+ of 128 and can play 1B, 2B, 3B, and RF/LF "chump change."
Posted by: ARusonis | December 05, 2008 at 02:38 PM
Phil Humber came over in the Santana deal and Jason Pridie came over in the Tampa Bay deal I believe. Humber is more of a back of the rotation guy and Pridie projects as more of a 4th OF'er.
Posted by: MNRunLeft | December 05, 2008 at 02:39 PM
Thanks MN
Posted by: elcaballofan4eva | December 05, 2008 at 02:42 PM
I'm not snippy, but I'd stop liking for that to happen.
Yeah I know he can play anywhere too, but we just need a 3B or SS.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 05, 2008 at 03:10 PM
Wiggy is an ideal fit for the Phils. Short term commitment, played LF last year, murders left handed pitching, and also can play 2b and 3b (perfect with our two guys recovering from surgery at those spots)
Plus Ed Wade probably still has an infatuation with a couple minor leaguers in our system that he drafted
Wiggy for Drew Carpenter? Kendrick?
Posted by: wayne gomes | December 05, 2008 at 03:12 PM
I think Boof Bonser is also someone the Twins could include in a package he really disappointed last year but still has some potential.
Posted by: MNRunLeft | December 05, 2008 at 03:40 PM
Not intending any disrespect here...but am I the only one that can't tell these Twins pitchers apart? Slowey, Baker, Blackburn, Perkins....anonymous caucasian righty A, B, C, D
I know these guys are all useful big leaguers and some probably have big upside...they're just not established enough yet to all stand out I guess
Posted by: wayne gomes | December 05, 2008 at 03:46 PM
Yeah people underrate our young players big time. We have the best young rotation in the Majors but then you see people offer Atkins for Slowey, Span, and a prospect
Posted by: twinsfan | December 05, 2008 at 03:58 PM
Well how would a Twins fan rank the 4 random white righty starters?
Posted by: wayne gomes | December 05, 2008 at 04:01 PM
I rank and I think most others would as well Baker and Slowey clearly ahead of Blackburn and then Perkins who is actually a lefty. Baker and Slowey are both #2 type guys while Blackburn and Perkins are back of the rotation guys.
Posted by: MNRunLeft | December 05, 2008 at 04:14 PM
Baker is a solid 3 maybe a 2 on some teams. I like him, wish The Astros could get him but Don't think he fairs well away from Minnesota. Not saying he isnt good but he pitched 15 more innings away than at home and gave up 25+ more runs. Also gives up way more walks to lefties and although im mashing on him a little he did pitch 40 more innings than the year before and posted a much better ERA, so maybe he is still progressing.
Posted by: AstrosCoverage.blogspot.com | December 05, 2008 at 04:43 PM
he is also way way better on turf than grass.......
Posted by: AstrosCoverage.blogspot.com | December 05, 2008 at 04:44 PM
There's a fairly significant gap from Baker/Slowey to Blackburn/Perkins. I would call Blackburn's 2008 pretty unexpected. Perkins is just kinda bleh.
Posted by: jhawk90 | December 05, 2008 at 04:47 PM
4 white righties?
Baker, Slowey, Blackburn, Perkins.
Liriano IMO is our ace. BTW, get Baker out of your THOUGHTS, it won't happen so stop thinking about it. Be realistic.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 05, 2008 at 04:59 PM
Baker - #2 starter - This guy knows how to pitch and can shut down teams with a good aresenal of pitches. He is not going anywhere unless the Twins get "exactly" the type of player they would want.
Slowey - #2/#3 starter - definitely a middle of the rotation guy. What makes Slowey special is this guy doesn't beat himself when he is on the mound.
Blacburn - #4/#5 - Last year was probably a fluke. Easily would be moved to make room for Duensing, Humber, or Swarzak.
Perkins - #4/#5 - I know a few guys that know him quite well from his days at the University of Minnesota and they all same the same thing about him ---> an arrogant jerk
I would think the Twins wouldn't mind moving either Blackburn or Perkins this offseason after their decent 08 campaings
Posted by: MinnesotaMike | December 05, 2008 at 05:00 PM
No, Baker and Slowey are going no where. Blackburn lead us in innings, but he just got a bit of a dead arm. He should stat,
Oh and being an arrogant jerk has nothing to do with baseball- I trade him anyways if a SS is there.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 05, 2008 at 05:52 PM
Well there it is. Learning something here on MLBTR
Twins seems to keep churning out that cheap, controllable young talent, year after year. Must have great scouting and great development, especially for pitchers
If it's true that some of these guys may not have the highest ceilings, I'd expect them to be moved for young, controllable offense while they have high value
Posted by: wayne gomes | December 05, 2008 at 05:52 PM
dude if only that dodgers deal was real
Posted by: Paul | December 05, 2008 at 05:53 PM
**stay.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 05, 2008 at 05:53 PM
"dude if only that dodgers deal was real"
And only if there were really a Santa Clause and buckets of gold at the end of rainbows.
Posted by: vtadave | December 05, 2008 at 06:15 PM
so who does Minnesota have that would be offered for Wiggington?
Posted by: AstrosCoverage.blogspot.com | December 05, 2008 at 06:31 PM
Probably not THAT interested in him in the first place. We'd rather have Blake for cash instead of giving up a ML ready starter or LR for one year of Wiggington. It'd take a MIRACLE to happen so I ask all Twins and 'Stros fans alike the cut the crap and be realistic.
But, back to the Teej's question. We could give up one of our long relief men for him straight up with maybe a prospect on our side or we could give Perkins or Blackburn for Wiggy + a reliever, but both deals are asking a lot from the Astros.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 05, 2008 at 07:07 PM
Well I don't know what the astros have asked from the Twins yet, but I bet it would be a lesser deal then what the Rockies were asking.
More then likely Wade is going to look for pitching.
Posted by: elcaballofan4eva | December 05, 2008 at 07:16 PM
"Well how would a Twins fan rank the 4 random white righty starters?"
Posted by: wayne gomes | December 05, 2008 at 04:01 PM
Well, if we had 4 white right starters, I'd tell you.
I personally have only seen Perkins pitch with his left hand....
Posted by: MinnesotaMasher | December 05, 2008 at 09:16 PM
Slowey #3 pitcher? If by #3 on the All-star team, then yeah, #3 pitcher.
Posted by: AtlantaBred | December 05, 2008 at 11:23 PM
Ahhh cut the guy some slack- he doesn't follow the Twins.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 05, 2008 at 11:35 PM
great move by astros to acquire kata, wish the pirates wouldve utilized his versatility and ability to perform in the clutch. his career avg in the minor leagues is .392 the kid just hasnt flourished in the majors yet.
Posted by: Josh Sharpless | December 05, 2008 at 11:51 PM
Well the Astros are needing a back up SS so Tejada can have a couple of days to rest, we have like 3-4 players that will likely be competing for that spot though... So hopefully Kata will prove himself.
Posted by: elcaballofan4eva | December 05, 2008 at 11:58 PM
Perkins is the bigger fluke than Blackburn. Blackburn will probably put up slightly worse numbers than he did last year, while Perkins will probably regress greater to hit what his expected production should be.
I see Perkins as the starter that should be traded. And still, I don't trade him for a rent-a-player unless that rental is Beltre. And I probably still wouldn't do it.
Posted by: melonis rex | December 06, 2008 at 09:58 AM
Why not Wiggington for Perkins + Humber/Mulvey/Swarzak.
Sounds fair for both sides, especially considering that Wiggy is one year away from FA.
Posted by: melonis rex | December 06, 2008 at 10:05 AM
Hell, looking at that again, I wouldn't give up Humber/Mulvey/Swarzak.
Perkins + some prospect.
Perkins should be enough to net a 1 year rental.
Posted by: melonis rex | December 06, 2008 at 10:07 AM
So I see the Twins have some level of interest in Jason Donald. Would he be enough (or maybe they add a decent arm) to get Slowey? Or would that not make a ton of sense for MIN
I suppose a Young for Donald (plus a prospect or two) would make sense based on need, but I don't really like the idea of paying for Young's potential. Bad plate discipline, yet to translate that power, poor OF based on +/-
