Quentin in the 3rd seems a litle high for me with his injury history and the fact he's an OF not a C,SS,or 2B.

An option för Penny would have come with a costly buyout and after he gets lit up in the Al East they will send him packing. Good thing not including an option.
I can allready see myself boooing this bum.

If Quentin is in the 3rd round, id consider him a steal. I think it was more then obvious who the MVP would have been if he wasn't a moron in breaking his own wrist. Will he have the same numbers as last year? Who knows for sure, but i can tell you now that things are looking good in CQ's career.

Quentin was by far the most valuable player in the AL up to his injury and he is a steal in the 3rd round?

I think it's important to separate real baseball MVP and fantasy baseball stats. In the fantasy world, Willy Taveras had positive value in 2008.

Good point, Tim. In the leagues I've been playing in, over the last few years I've been able to grab players like Dye with a 9th/10th round pick. Quentin is not a 3rd rounder.

Agree 100% with Abraham. The Yankees need to find someone to be a legitimate #5 guy. Hughes and kennedy already let them down last season and they are as of this moment left pencilled in to that spot, #3 is Wang which he has listed for 200 innings, yet is coming back from a very serious leg injury, AJ Burnett at 190 innings and has pitched that many 3 times in his 10 year career due to all of his injuries, Chamberlain at 140 and CC at 225 who both sound realistic.
That sounds like trouble and that they are getting themselves into the same starting pitcher pile that happened last season all over again. They still can get Lowe, or even another hurt guy in Sheets and just think that they are asking for it if this season starts with such a short pitching staff.
Abraham is dead on with this article.

Some prospect memories from that minor league signing. Dave Krynzel I remember was supposed to be amazing, as was Foppert. Too bad Andy Phillips never got a shot, I could see him getting a real one with Pittsburgh.

addymaster: I would not go with Damon as a DH. I like Abreu but it depends on the price. If the rumors of Man-NY coming are false then I'd just go with Nady (RF), Damon (LF), Melky/Gardner (CF), Matsui DH and Swisher (LF/CF/RF/1B/DH).
I agree with the writer. The Yanks have never had any depth on either side of the ball. I think Andy will come around to the idea of coming back with a pay cut. I would offer 12 mil and call it a day. If not then I would look at a very short term solution for the #5 spot because I honestly think Hughes deserves another shot. Maybe Sheets or John Smoltz if you can get them on a 1 year deal?
I also read somewhere that maybe they could piggy back Chamberlain and Hughes and have them pitch on the same day. I had a thought of having Hughes up as a sixth man spot starter/long relief guy for 1 year and then giving him the spot in 2010. Has that ever been done before (having a 2 combo of pitchers going on the same day)? Joba goes 5 and then HUghes pitches 6th-8th? Maybe..maybe not?

RE: Minor league transactions...
Dodgers must not have been impressed with one month of off-season performance of Scott Strickland? Must have access to Hot Stove League WHIP for analysis ;)

Jesse Foppert was already with the Giants in 2007 and 2008 after Seattle released him before the 2007 season started. Foppert did not pitch well in 2008 by having a 7.62 ERA in 41.1 innings pitched in Triple-A. In those innings he gave up 45 hits 43 walks, and 35 earned runs. Yikes! While in 2007 he pitched only 1 inning that year in 3 games played, giving up 1 hit, 4 walks, and 5 earned runs. Injuries have hurt Foppert's baseball career.

This will be the 3rd year in a row that Foppert has been "reuinited" with the Giants...

While it's not hard to believe anyone would offer Penny a contract, after watching him the past 3-1/2 yrs he clearly lacks the discipline to justify either a long term or higher price.
He never kept himself in shape even when he lack of condition clearly affected his pitching. Also, if you watch his mechanics is has no rhythm in his delivery. Nothing is smooth and when he struggles it gets worse as well as he begins to lose focus plus trying to over throw.
On top of it he really has not appeared to be the sort who cares enough to understand he needs to work harder to take advantage of his potential. If the BoSox got tired of MRam just wait until they get an eyeful of Penny and his child like attitude/work-ethics.

I wouldnt mind if the Yanks signed Lowe or Sheets or traded for a pitcher, and if any go down they can use Hughes or Aceves to hold the fort & still have good starters. The Yanks rotation on paper looks good, but can they stay healthy
