I still wish the Cards had offered Springer arbitration, if he accepts fine..it adds depth to the pen and it allows for Jason Motte to start the season in AAA to continue working on his secondary pitch and if he doesn't accept then you get 2 free draft picks.

UGH, Someone tell Mr. Amaro that the Philies need a RIGHT handed bat. Ibanez is a nice hitter but is not a fit for the Phillies, especially when they're losing a first round pick.

Feel bad for Fox, the over/under on IP this year has to be like 4.
His numbers are pretty remarkable career wise for a guy a lot of people never heard of but I wonder if he can ever stay healthy, and why he keeps coming back at 38.

The only way King Griffey Junior hits 30 Home Runs in a season is if he is batting off a tee and playing in a Little League park.
KGJ's bat speed has slowed down and the only thing he can get around on now are Fast Balls low and in and Change Ups.
Since he tries to pull every pitch and thus wont go to the opposite field, his Batting Average is NOT going be that high anymore either.
At the 2007 All Star break, KGJ had 23 Home Runs in 287 At Bats. Since then, he has hit 25 HR's in 731 At Bats.

ctownboy,
people like you are the reason that griffey said he felt more appreciation on the road than he did at home. griffey played through a knee injury this year and the doctors say that won't affect him this year. griffey will have a better year this year.

Tim,
I think there might be some adware on the site today. when i came on i got 11 pop ups from Capital One. Just something to look into. anyone else having the same problem?
Posted by: coltholt | December 03, 2008 at 03:36 PM
coltholt
FireFox + Adblock Plus will solve your problem.

I have to respectfully disagree with Gammons' assertion that the Giants won't pursue FA bats that cost more than $10M/year. They've now addressed their bullpen for far less than $10 million/year, and have the money to add an impact bat or two. They'll sign Renteria and Burrell for $20 million/year between them.

Nothing here and no popup blocker.

Chad Fox AGAIN, wtf?? Does this guy have motel room pictures of Jim Hendry with assorted barnyard animals, or what's the deal? CUT. THE. ROPE.
Posted by: Johnny Rotten | December 03, 2008 at 03:52 PM
I'll take either Cruz for 2 years or Springer for 1 because who Durbin didn't look great at the end of the year, but we need a righty bat in LF to replace Burrell. Ryan Howard needs protection!

Drunk Jays Fan has Mench confused with Tom Selleck.

Evan Grant... after he had Pedroia at his 4th place spot in MVP voting as of September, then left him off the ballot completely (he ended the season, with what a 10 game hitting streak?), I can't take anything he writes seriously.
Posted by: Peagle8 | December 03, 2008 at 04:04 PM
Hahaha Johnny Rotten. I was thinking the same thing...without the animals. Nice touch, though.

I still think the Dbacks should go after Griffey as a left handed power hitter and a seat filler as well after losing Johnson.
PS, I'm a student at Illinois. Nice to see you're a fellow Illini, Tim.

Love the comment about Chad Fox....oh yeah, the Cubs signed him because of his secret powers to play RF and hit LH.
And what's Bruce Miles smoking....because whatever it is, I want some. Milton Bradley, yeah. I wouldn't sign that headcase in a million years. The Cubs should go after Abreu because of his OBP.
Posted by: iowacubs | December 03, 2008 at 04:24 PM
if bradley stayed healthy for a two year contract he would look very good in right field for the cubs.
he would no doubt bat third.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | December 03, 2008 at 04:35 PM
Why aren't the Cubs going after Manny?
Posted by: rfro | December 03, 2008 at 05:24 PM
Milton Bradley could make a lot of sense in RF for the Cubs. He hit 22 homers while hitting for a .321 average with an obp of .436. That is insane. I hate his attitude but he is a ridiculus hitter when healthy. Anyone have a scouting report on Bradley's defense? Anyone know what Abreu's numbers were?

They forgot to mention that Mench becomes friends with Pedro Cerano.

Another Illini here. Nice to know we are represented.

That reveals a lot-
Well if Gardy wants him gone then it's looking more and more likely...
damn
Posted by: twinsfan | December 03, 2008 at 05:49 PM
rfro-
A) The Cubs need a lefthanded hitter to break up the righties in the lineup.
B) Can't afford him.

Alfonso Soriano + Manny Ramirez in the same OF == LOLOLOLOL
Posted by: melonis rex | December 03, 2008 at 05:56 PM
Hilarious Chad Fox comment, by the way.
Posted by: BigBatsMcHellfire | December 03, 2008 at 05:57 PM
Oh god. HUGE PR f--k up by Gardy.
Why do you say this kind of stuff to the media? That's what leads to players being traded for pennies on the dollar.
Posted by: melonis rex | December 03, 2008 at 05:58 PM
Gardy isn't exactly MLK up there at the mic.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 03, 2008 at 06:04 PM
Couple thoughts:
- Let's not bring up Dustin Pedroia every time Evan Grant writes something. It's not a big deal and he's a good beat writer.
- If you got a popup on MLBTR please send me a screenshot! Sometimes ad networks slip them in, I do not want any popups on the site.

"Gardy isn't exactly MLK up there at the mic."
He doesn't have to be. The one cardinal rule of manager PR is: If there is any remote likelihood that a player will be traded, team officials should NOT be calling him out.
Posted by: melonis rex | December 03, 2008 at 06:32 PM
I am honored to have Tim's post right beneath mine.
Oh and yeah, you might give away the fact the Twins don't want him, which will lead to appallingly low offers.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 03, 2008 at 07:38 PM
The reason KGJ said he felt more appreciation on the Road is because KGJ can't stand it when people say things that hurt his EGO!!!!
KGJ DEMANDED to be traded from Seattle after the fans got onto him and hurt his EGO.
The Mariners ahd a deal set up with the Mets but he shot that down and wanted to only go to Cincinnati. Why? EGO!!!!
If KGJ TRULY wanted to go to a team that had a chance to win a World Series then he could have stayed in Seattle, accepted a trade to the Mets or asked to go to the Yankees. Becaue all three teams had better records from 1995 to 1999 than the Reds and all three temas made more Play Off appearances than the Reds. Heck, hte Yankees won four World Series titles during that time period.
But no, KGJ HAD to go to Cincinniat where he grew up, where his Dad played and where the media and fans wouldn't get on him when he loafed, pouted and acted like a Prima Donna.
Oh yeah, as far as his other reason for wanting to go only to Cincinnati; that it was closer to his Home in Orlando? Well, I guess he forgot that Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Miami are ALL closer to his Home in Orlando. I guess he also forgot that Atlanta was making the Play Offs each year.

wow...you really passionately dislike the reds. and it is a shame that you have such a negative attitude towards one of the greatest players this generation has known. he may not have the range he had when he was 19, but he still makes highlight reel catches. this guy gives it his all in the field, which is something that most superstars don't seem to anymore.
You hit the nail on the head on why he wanted to go to cincy. He grew up there! his dad was working in the front office...and he was told that the reds were going to do what it took to win! the front office missed that memo...
sure is a shame to see such an angry reds fan...you are missing the joy of following such a great game...
