Why we're we hearing LA was out on Furcal?
Never bought that...

And why did use an apostrophe?
Posted by: Kenan and Kel | December 04, 2008 at 08:36 PM
Time for Furcal to drop into the A's laps.
Posted by: melonis rex | December 04, 2008 at 08:37 PM
Beltre blocked a trade to LA in July. Why would he change his mind?
Posted by: kdub | December 04, 2008 at 08:40 PM
Kdub, link? Or you just making up stuff?
Posted by: NedCollettiClueless | December 04, 2008 at 08:59 PM
Jorge Cantu? Josh Fields?

It's also noted on Cot's baseball contracts site.

i wanna know what was going to be given up for him..
and what would be given up now.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | December 04, 2008 at 09:05 PM
i also have a feeling that furcal is coming back. and then hu can slide to second and the infield defense up the middle would be very solid.

Me and Stark are on the same page. I'm betting Ruben didn't really put in too serious of a bid.
While I should probably give it more time I'm calling the Amaro hiring Gillick's worst move.

With the salary dumped this offseason in excess of 20 million.(Swish, Javy, Crede, Uribe, Toby and possibly Cabrera) I have this odd feeling KW might jump in with a uncharacteristically large offer for Sabathia.
But it's probably just gas.

Ahh alex an article that deosnt sound like a 5 year old wrote it, bullet points are much easier
Posted by: Reality Check | December 04, 2008 at 09:17 PM
Wouldn't Cantu be redundant considering they just traded for Wilson Betemit?
Posted by: jza1218 | December 04, 2008 at 09:22 PM
intersting about beltre, never knew that. the only differance is about sept. i think he siad he come back(in the la times)
srry, no link

for his carrer and a dodger fan, i hope jones can get back to normal. he was at least ok, but last yr he sucked. hopefully he can get better with the dodgers or be able to be traded to a team willing to take a risk.

young(he needs to hit somewhere and its quite clear it wont be in la)

beltre
yes,no,maybe so?

Cantu is a legitimate 25 hr guy who can play 1b, 2b and 3b. Bets is a utility guy at best I think.

"for his carrer and a dodger fan, i hope jones can get back to normal. he was at least ok, but last yr he sucked. hopefully he can get better with the dodgers or be able to be traded to a team willing to take a risk."
he would have to mash the ball for the first half next year to regain value..
heres the problem.. no matter what hes the 4th outfielder. he might platoon with ethier next year.. not likely though
but if he destroys the ball then he will just stay put for the year..
i think everyone of his homeruns was from him cheating horribly on a fastball.. it was that bad.
could you imagine if boras got him his 5/100 contract last year?

hey lakesdodgersyanks:
What was Andru's defense like before he pulled the limo up to Pinks hot dog stand and camped out?

LOL, hey pinks is worth that extra 30 pounds isnt it?
he was okay to be frank(no pun intended) but he didnt play too much
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | December 04, 2008 at 09:54 PM
Cause all their current ones besides Alexei(we hope) are question marks.
Posted by: astralpanda | December 04, 2008 at 09:54 PM
Yeah I made the mistake of loading up on a couple of Rosie O'donnels before getting on a flight to NY (burp).
Posted by: YanksFanSince78 | December 04, 2008 at 09:56 PM
Do you see DeWitt as a 3B or 2B?
Posted by: YanksFanSince78 | December 04, 2008 at 09:57 PM
dewitt is a decent 3rd baseman(hes defense is legit)
or he makes a great 2nd baseman..

If I was a Dodger's fan, I think his offensive output is more suitable at second base. Especially when you consider that there are a couple of names that are either available via free agency or trade (Atkins, Crede, Blake, Beltre, Lowell perhaps?).
Posted by: Bravesfan89 | December 04, 2008 at 10:05 PM
I'm shooting this White Sox rumor down now, unless we can somehow get Cantu for just a little more then a song I don't see reason behind giving decent prospects away.
It makes you wonder if the sox make an offer to C.C. It's up to him , take less money and play oh so close to Cleveland or take more money but be farther away from home and have to deal with the NY media. Hey he seemed to like Milwakee(spelled wrong probably) why not throw your hat in there White Sox?

CC's home is in the bay area.

i think if you switch hu for dejesus jr and throw in a low level prospect its a done deal. the dodgers know dejesus jr is their future and they will try and trade hu for something, as he could still turn out as a good player.
as for jones. he made a comment at the bottom at the blog, and it made me think that he can get his carrer back on track, just because he was a good player in atlanta. one thing i think gms should keep in mind. unless the former team has a good reason(young player, money concerns)just let a vet go, gms should be very careful if the former team makes no try at resigning them.(jones, pierre, schdmit, etc)
Posted by: lakersdodgersyankees4life | December 04, 2008 at 10:40 PM
Cantu is a Crede clone. No speed, good power, ok-bad AVG, bad OBP.
He really isn't that much of an improvement over Betemit. He has more power, but other than that they are both slow IF that get on base at a rate below league average.
I would take him over Getz/Nix, but he isn't worth that much and isn't worth going after unless he is cheap.
Posted by: rowdyoctopus | December 04, 2008 at 10:58 PM
its about time the yankees talked about sheets, because the top 3 are all going elsewhere.

Re: Beltre blocking trade to LA
Word is that Beltre would be fine with an LA return. The consensus is that he didn't want to abandon his teammates mid-season, and he might have blocked any trade.

And who are you giving up for Beltre?
Posted by: blueandteal | December 05, 2008 at 12:48 AM
Doesn't C.C. hate the white sox? I thought I heard that somewhere.
And I know he's a horse, but I don't know if I want such a large (seemingly overweight) pitcher on my staff after signing a $150 million deal. But if he pitches like he did in Milwaukee, then $20+ mil/year seems like bargain.
As for Cantu, I don't think it would be bad at all, so long as we don't give up anything of serious value.
Posted by: whitesoxfan424 | December 05, 2008 at 08:51 AM
Need I remind people of "overweight" pitchers. Ex: Colon. About 31 or so, Colon started breaking down. Sabathia is not far behind on that, so anything over 3 or 4 years might be a risk.

Betemit weighs 155 lbs. I don't see anyone that thin hitting 25+ HRs now that they are testing for steroids.
Posted by: BigRob | December 05, 2008 at 11:21 AM
Betemit hasn't weighed 155 since he was maybe 18 or so. That number you're quoting is so outdated its ridiculous. ESPN has him at 230, but he might even be a little bigger than that now.
Posted by: nixa37 | December 05, 2008 at 03:39 PM
HAHA...what an idiot...
The epitome of some stathead who never watches a game of baseball ever. If you even looked at Betemit once, you'd know that he doesn't weigh 155 lbs...
