Posted by: Reality Check | December 14, 2008 at 11:09 AM
Tex gets a free Ravens game out of it. That's all.

Didn't CC go to a Golden State game?
Posted by: DominicanYanks | December 14, 2008 at 11:15 AM
I don't think its about money for Teix. I think he wants to go to Baltimore ideally, but if they don't lie out serious restructuring plans to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox (and of course they Rays), he's going to Boston. He didn't leave Texas and Atlanta to move to another losing team. I think if the Orioles laid out a plan and 7/150, he would go there. However, I don't think competing with the Yankees and Red Sox in the next few seasons is in the cards for the Orioles right now, hence why I say there is no way he ends up anywhere but Boston or Anaheim. Anaheim has location against them.

Boston needs to sign Tex. Holliday will be a FA next year and they can lock him up for the same deal. Thats all they need to do to ensure a competitive lineup for the next 8-10 yrs. 40 mil among 2 players is a lot but its worth it.
Posted by: celtics464 | December 14, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Maybe he'll be interested int he Pirates after the Steelers whoop the Ravens ass'
Posted by: Showtime35 | December 14, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Also boston made it clear their cap is MUCH higher than 7/150 as they said they are considering making the biggest offer in franchise history. I don't think they have an offer on the table for Teix yet as all the reports seem to point against it now. I think they are waiting for all the other teams to get in their bids and swoop in like the Yanks and bid one higher along with the chance to win every year for as long as his contract signs. Against boston though is that they won't implement no trade clauses or opt out clauses as Theo Epstein does not believe in them.

Yanks should offer 8/175
Posted by: DominicanYanks | December 14, 2008 at 11:21 AM
celtics464
Teix+Holliday 40 mil
combined .320 or so BA.
60 or so homers
220-250 rbi.
Arod 30 mil
.320 40-50hr and 120-130 rbi
Doesn't seem like a bad price for me based on the new standards. double run production 10-20 more homers and of course double the hits and AB. Along with not batting .220 w/risp. only 10 mil more.
Posted by: Santana/Beckett FTW | December 14, 2008 at 11:22 AM
perhaps the reason they have not locked up jason bay for more years yet is that they are going to be in on the holliday sweepstakes?
Posted by: Santana/Beckett FTW | December 14, 2008 at 11:23 AM
Santana/Beckett FTW, but from a business stand point A-rod will make more money for your team than those combine.
Posted by: DominicanYanks | December 14, 2008 at 11:27 AM
haha teix had to go hang with theo in boston. couldn't make it. sry baltimore! lol j/k
Posted by: Santana/Beckett FTW | December 14, 2008 at 11:30 AM
"A-rod will make more money for your team than those combine. "
Not really. Read your records. Yankee stadium has been selling out for far longer than A-rod's been there. His presence hasn't increased jersey sales, or pretty much anything at all financially. Hence why the 10/275 was such a horrible deal for the Yankees. I promise you if A-Rod got injured you wouldn't see ticket sales drop one bit.
Not to mention the new stadium is pretty much all corporate now. So true fans cant even get to a game. Season ticket prices skyrocketed this offseason.
Posted by: Santana/Beckett FTW | December 14, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Baseball player sell more thing than tickets. And A-rod might be in it for the HR record.
Posted by: DominicanYanks | December 14, 2008 at 11:37 AM
AROD will generate more money yes but thats only when he starts going for the homerun title. And seeing as how the yanks usually fill their stadium pretty well home and away its not going to make them that much more money but it does almost guarantee a steady income for the life of his contract and is a great signing in terms of generating a revenue stream. TEX and Holliday would also bring in a good deal in merchandising especially if they both sign long term deals.
Posted by: celtics464 | December 14, 2008 at 11:38 AM
cant blame the yanks for all of their money.
burnett signing is ridiclous
should sign lowe though because pitching wins championships
they have enough offense
Posted by: beastOftheEast | December 14, 2008 at 11:38 AM
beastOftheEast, actually if they go to the season with their current offense, they haven't done anything. They need a run producer behind A-rod, a guy like Tex or Manny. Last year they had problems scoring runs and in 2009 they won't have Abreu and Giambi.

You are completely wrong. Something like 80 percent of the seats are very easily affordable to anybody. It is the other 20 percent of seats where the prices just rise into absurd territory. But the majority of the seats are affordable for the average fan.

Have you seen the economy lately? Whose going to pay for these seats, certainly not upper class suburbians from new jersey of conneticut.

does anyone read before they post anymore?
And the red sox nation fans that think they are not only getting Teixeira, but Holliday too make me laugh out loud, too.
Posted by: ArodMVP217 | December 14, 2008 at 12:37 PM
The Angels have reportedly already offered Teixeira 8/$180-$185MM.

Ahh, I love clueless trolls. They embarrass themselves so much, it's like they're a clown, except they don't know that everyone is actually laughing at them.
The fact is, the average price for a ticket in the new stadium has remained the same (UNDER the average price for a Red Sox ticket, mind you. Want to reconsider your crowing about the 'corporate' Yankees, you worthless pile of dung?). That means that when you hear reports about $2500 seats, or corporate boxes costing a million dollars, that means the average fan can get ticket prices for LESS.
Matter of fact, you can still get bleacher seats, which are rather good seats, for $14 bucks. Good luck getting anything close to that in old, smelly, rundown Fenway.
Just don't listen to SB/FTW. Or do, if only for the pure entertainment value of just another smug Sox fan who thinks he's smarter than everyone else. It really doesn't ever get old.
Posted by: AndrewYF | December 14, 2008 at 12:55 PM
AROD lover-
No one said the Sox would get Holliday. I only recommended it and said that he would be worth the money it would cost.
Its pretty obvious you think the Yankees are the only team who can spend money and you are wrong.
Andrew - after reading your post you sound pretty full of yourself too.

Wasn't the angels offer was 4 8/160
Posted by: DominicanYanks | December 14, 2008 at 01:24 PM
"Matter of fact, you can still get bleacher seats, which are rather good seats, for $14 bucks."
"Rather good"? The bleachers are the worst possible place to watch a baseball game. Why would you want to sit behind the outfield when 95% of the game happens in the infield?
That said, $26 for bleacher seats in Fenway is the biggest ripoff in sports.

damon
jeter
arod
manny
matsui
swisher
posada
cameron
cano
i could definetly live with that especially #s 1-4.

When will the Yankees understand that signing these All-Star teams every year doesn't work
Posted by: redsoxbaseball | December 14, 2008 at 03:29 PM
no one said that the Red Sox "are" getting Holliday. But if they get Teixiera and haven't locked up Bay for more years, you bet they will bid and bid high for Holliday. Holliday is going to New York, Boston, LA, or another major spotlight city where he can rack in some serious cash. I see the Sox as his best suitor seeing how Bay's contract will be up and they will have a big bat and gap to fill in left. All signs point towards this.
In my opinion, if the sox didn't feel they had a good shot at holliday, Bay would be right there on that list with Youkilis of guys to resign to long term deals immediately. Bay is not currently on that list.

Hey gamma....did you mean the Angel's offer was 8/160-165 instead of 180-185? If not....where did you read that?
Posted by: SamSanchez | December 14, 2008 at 08:26 PM
Jeff Biggs of AM 830 reported that Tony Reagins confirmed to him that the Angels made an offer of 8/$180-$185MM.
