wigginton actually had a nice OPS last year in 300+ AB's, but i wonder what it would take to get him? i wouldn't give up any top prospects or anyone on the MLB roster. Kouz is another nice option seeing as how his "poor" defense is overblown but once again, what would we have to give up?

Wouldn't Boof for Jack Wilson straight up sort of make sense for both teams?

Astros are going to look for pitching, it doesn't have to be top prospects.... But Wiggy is a very good player, and is under valued at defense.

"Several teams have asked about Boof Bonser"
And why wouldn't they? He's poised for a breakout year. Again.
I'd wear a splash guard around Smith if you ask him about Boof, he'll be so shocked he'll spew.

I wonder how many bags of baseballs it would take to get Boof on the braves...
Twins got
2 bags of balls and a hat for Santana
and
1 bag of balls and 2 bats for Garza
in other words.... not a smart trading team...

Jack Wilson is set to make a lot of money for not much production. If you want a flashy glove guy who can't hit then make Gardy happy and bring back Punto and save some money.

I was thinking the same thing. Pirates need some pitchers, Twins need a shortstop. Everyone is happy.
(Of course, I'm sure a sticking point would be Wilson's salary.)

well, how many balls and bats did the twins get for aj pierzinski. oh wait, just the leagues most consistent closer not named rivera and a future ace, not to mention the aforementioned boof. the twins are a pretty good trading team, it just didn't work out in the delmon trade. the johan trade was pretty much not their choice, as i think the mets were the only serious suitors, but that's another story.

You forgot to mention that it was Terry Ryan who traded Pierzynski for Nathan, Liriano, and Bonser.
The Twins current GM now, however, is not Terry Ryan, but a guy named Bill Smith. Two different people.

Sort of: the Twins are good when trading for young talent. They are much worse at scouting and valuing major league talent. This year they have some needs at the major league level and they're going to try another go at he grown-ups. Cross your fingers MN fans...

They wouldn't give Blake 3/18 but are discussing trading for Kouz or Wiggy ?
Ouch.

"2 bags of balls and a hat for Santana"
No.
OK. The Twins could have gotten more, you are right. That's the only fault with the Santana trade.
However, the Twins were not trying to contend in 2008. They decided that they were going to acquire some young talent, with two big players, Hunter and Silva, departing for greener pastures (hahaha). So, they trade Johan. Yes, the Mets got a steal of a package for him. It was more win-win than anything though.
One of the best defensive CF in the league (Gomez) is worth more than 2 draft picks. And there's like other prospects who could do well, or be trade chips.

I'd trade Perkins for 2 years of Atkins.
Posted by: twinsfan | December 09, 2008 at 06:48 PM
Twins Wish list should be
Beltre
Hardy
Kouz
Atkins
Wigginton
Wilson

I actually think that the Twins didnt have much choice with Santana. Due to the Paycheck he was going to get I dont think the Trade was too bad. Melonis is right. I would ratehr have Gomez than 2 picks, and Phil Humber, Kevin Mulvey and Deolis Guerra.

W.Sox haven't even been rumored for Cantu. Surprised that the twins are being hes not that strong of a defender. but he would definitely be the right handed bat they could use.

A deal built around Kouzmanoff and Delmon Young would make sense for both teams (with Headley returning to 3B for the Padres).
Posted by: TNS | December 09, 2008 at 07:14 PM
Kouz for Delmon? There would have to be another major piece involved on the Padres side. Plus a possible prospect? Can you give me some prospects or another mojor piece to fit into that?
Posted by: patsfanatic83 | December 09, 2008 at 07:16 PM
It would not be a major prospect if anything I could see the Padres throwing in a mid level guy like Chad Huffman but even that is rather unlikley.
