Lo Duca sucks. Waste of time, and he's a cheater.
And for a team that's not very close to contending, spending $8M on a closer seems pretty silly.

Well, they are free to trade him if they want.

Jose Valverde is arb. eligible and has been the league leader in saves for two years now... He could've received more.
But yeah... the Astros have a terrible farm and don't look any good for the near future.
Plus their owner keeps whining about a salary cap with 1.6+ billion dollars in his pocket.

No thanks to Paul Lo Duca

Trade Valverde to whom? And for what?
He's a decent closer making about what he deserves.
Not many teams are looking for closers any more.
I've thought for a while that they should deal him.
If they can land a prospect or two then it would help.
It's a better idea than letting him walk or extending him.

the stros aren't gonna rebuild. we kno they need to, but they won't. so let's move past that please...
for a guy who really has his hands tied, ed wade has done a pretty solid job in my opinion. i'm not a lo duca fan, but he's probably better than anyone else they have the money to bring in until castro is ready. ditto for boone replacing wigginton. it doesn't hurt to bring valverde back another year, at least until the trader deadline

trade* deadline

The Astros aren't going to rebuild because they have an idiotic owner that isn't willing to accept a rebuilding situation.
This team has little in their farm system outside of their 2008 draftees, guys like Castro, Lyles and Seaton, and the ML team has like one good young cornerstone, in Hunter Pence.
They're in a very poor long term position, and moving guys like Berkman, Oswalt, Lee, Tejada, and Valverde could really change the makeup of this team and its future.
Too bad they'll keep shuffling around high paid players and veterans in the hopes of figuring it out.
