« D-backs GM, CEO Unlikely To Leave | Main | Varitek, Red Sox Working On Deal? »
According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Atlanta Braves remain a possible suitor for Japanese pitcher Kenshin Kawakami.
The Japan Times has reported that Kawakami had narrowed his choices to the Baltimore Orioles, Minnesota Twins and St. Louis Cardinals. O'Brien's report disputes this by saying he spoke Saturday with Kawakami's agent, who said the Braves were still one of the teams Kawakami had on his list.

It seems like everything Dave O'Brien writes is complete BS. I wouldn't believe this for a second.

Huh? When has DOB be wrong on something this winter? Do you really think he's just making up a conversation he had with Kawakami's agent?

Just to be clear, he wasn't the reporter who broke the Furcal "signing" and he wasn't the writer who claimed a deal between the Braves and Padres for Peavy was almost complete.

Let's just hope that the Cardinal's don't pick up this guy! I would love to see the Cards have another miserable third place finish!

One of the most ignorant comments I've ever seen on this site.

I think that the Braves should set their full effort on acquiring Derek Lowe. I know that Kawakami may/may not be easy to get, but he hasn't proven himself in the clutch like Lowe. Maybe a 3yr/45 million dollar deal with a vesting option for a 4th yr. Anything over that, go for Kawakami or re-open the Jake Peavy situation.

How about Jordan Schafer,Cole ?Rorobrough?/Jeff Locke,Charlie Morton/Jo-Jo Reyes,Blaine Boyer/Jeff Bennett,Casey Kotchman for Peavy and Adrian Gonzalez?
A three-team trade that could get rid of the glut of OFers for the yanks= The Braves get Nick Swisher and Robinson Cano, Giants get Xavier Nady, and the Yanks acquire Matt Cain,Jonathan Sanchez, and Kelly Johnson

SORRY bout double post. The one i like the most is the second one
Posted by: Bravesfan10 | January 04, 2009 at 10:41 PM
I don't see either trade happening.
The first one, the Braves couldn't land Peavy so you can imagine what the odds of them landing both Peavy and Gonzalez would be.
The second one, if the Giants are going to trade Cain I would prefer to see the Braves try to land him instead of being part of a 3 way trade that sends him somewhere else.

The Giants aren't trading Matt Cain for a 1 year rental in Nady and a relief pitcher. He's signed for a 3 year 13M contract. That's dirt cheap for a #2 in today's baseball world.
The Giants could just sign Burrell. He'd cost no draft picks or players. Plus he's a better htter than Nady.

I see many teams staying away from the Yankees, in trading.

If Cain is traded it will be to the Braves. I wonder what they would want for Cain and Sanchez

"If Cain is traded it will be to the Braves. I wonder what they would want for Cain and Sanchez"
A lot.
I think any Cain package starts with Freeman. I understand Braves fans think he's untouchable, but Freeman is the player who would help the Giants the most in the long run. High power potential, and plays 1B.

what about starting with kotchman instead?
already established and can help now. has line drive power and occasional HR pop. Works the count and takes his walks. GG def.
