« A's Rumors: Abreu, Cabrera, Barton | Main | Will Ohman Update »
According to ESPN's Jayson Stark:
The signing of Pat Burrell seemed to close the door on Cliff Floyd's return to Tampa Bay. But Floyd's agents, Seth and Sam Levinson, continue to speak with the Rays about finding a role for Floyd, who served as Tampa Bay's primary lefthanded DH last year. Floyd has told friends that returning to the Rays is still his first choice.
On November 3rd, the Rays chose a $250K buyout over Floyd's $2.75MM option. Floyd, 36, hit .268/.349/.455 in 284 plate appearances in '08. Floyd decided to rehab his shoulder injury rather than have surgery.

Why? Floyd was fine last season...the Rays might not have a spot for him, Jay, but Floyd can still hit.

do the rays need a fourth outfielder, would floyd accept that role if open? his numbers dont stink that much

Joyce - Upton - Crawford - Burrell...I think it depends on whether or not Floyd could play the field.

B3NG4L.... It is because Jay Destro is a fuckin' moron. He made fun of Jon Patterson because he had to retire at 30 because of injuries, so I wouldn't expect anything less from this person. Frankly, I hope he never has children. Not a very good role model. Quit when the going gets tough, and make fun of the unfortunate (who happen to work harder and have more talent then you ever will).

i think floyd is more important to that team (rays) than a lot of people realize...i hope they find a way to bring him back.

Cliff Floyd is like Tony Clark was earlier in his career, a valuable role player with good pop that you can insert into the lineup when you really need him, and on top of that you get him for the a super cheap price.
If Cliff Floyd doesn't accept a fourth outfielder position than he doesn't deserve to be re-signed, nor would he deserve a starting job and that would prove why he's never been able to be a consistent starting outfielder that could show his potential.
Cliff Floyd has another 3 years left in him AT LEAST if he is a man about it and takes that fourth outfielder job, whether with the Rays or anyone!

I think Floyd is perfectly OK with the 4th OF job. He knows that all the starting OF and DH positions are filled. He would be a pinch hitter in late innings and simply a bench guy.
