I hope the Edgar Martinez that's mentioned in the article isn't the same Edgar Martinez that I'm thinking of... He's my second favorite player all-time, he doesn't need a comeback... He's the best DH ever.

I'm sure Mets fans remember Scott Strickland as an opponent and eventual met, he was loved. Good sign if he hasn't lost it all after his injuries.

That's so awesome! Freaking landing Brazoban, while all the professional pitchers sign elsewhere. Everyone who bleeds blue, got your new fight song: Stones' Let It Bleed.

Everyone makes group minor league signings like this, from Boston to Tampa. There's nothing special about what the Dodgers are doing here in a bad way.
Val Pascucci was one name that popped out to me. He's absolutely mashed AAA and never gotten a shot, which is criminal. Still only 30, if he gets a chance in LA with a Loney injury, I think he could put up an .800 OPS. Let's call him the new Jack Cust.
Three straight years now with a .950+ OPS in AAA.

Stephen Randolph is another name that I noticed. Guy has perhaps the worst control in the upper majors, but electric stuff. Swingman who can start or relieve (better as the latter with control issues obviously). 62 IP, 44 BB, 96 K last year in AAA between Houston and Philly with a 2.4ish ERA.
155 pro innings with 136 BB and 134 K, but perhaps he'd be worth a second look after the year he had last year and harnessing his control (a bit).

(Insert pompous comment from a Red Sox or Yankees fan about how the Dodgers are on the move now)

The dodgers are done signing players now. They'll go into the season with these guys.

Wasn't Brazoban being groomed at one point to take over the closer role from Gagne?

Edgar Martinez is a ... ahem, portly pitcher who was in the Red Sox system for years. I'm not sure where he pitched last season.
The players are listed in the article. Click on the link Tim provided to the story.

These signings are no big thing. As noted above, all teams make signings like this in off season. Most of these guys become training camp filler, and AAA filler if needed. Maybe 1-2 of them have a shot at making the big league roster. Brazoban was once a closer in the making who had injuries (and subsequent weight gain) slow him down greatly. Had talent though. Randolph and Pascucci are definitely interesting names here. The rest, not so much.
Mitch Jones and John Lindsey, poor guys, forever minor leaguers, the Crash Davises of 1st baseman. Maybe they and/or Pascucci get a shot.

Brazoban was being groomed at one point to take over the closer role. I still think he can be a great middle reliever. He is only 28 years old and was an outfielder until he was about 20. He has had a lot of set backs with injuries but his stuff is still nasty and if he can learn to pitch he could be a great find. Good move by the Dodgers giving him another shot.

"Wasn't Brazoban being groomed at one point to take over the closer role from Gagne?"
He was, and in fact he held the closer position in 2005. But then he got hurt and has been unable to pitch effectively since. It's amazing how an injury followed by a lack of success will completely destroy the psyche of a player. Brazoban was a stud, and then in a flash, he's been horrible.
