According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, Dodgers assistant GM Logan White watched free agent starter Kris Benson long-toss today. Benson will work out for other clubs soon. Benson had rotator cuff surgery in March of 2007, and was not able to pitch effectively for the Phillies in '08.

These Kris Benson auditions are becoming an annual rite of spring.

You know he was selected 1st overall in his draft class. That turned out to be a major bust. But he aint that bad. Hes a good 5th starter if healthy.

They aren't married anymore, and in the grand scheme of things she isn't THAT hot. The only thing appealing about her is what a crazy nimfo she claims to be.

Of course he was a bust as the 1st overall draft pick...the Pirates selected him. According to Wikipedia, Anna is still with him and they have 3 kids...

Ummmm.... Dodgers already have their own Schmidt, why pick up another one?

he got lit up in AAA for the phillies

Shoulda went with "This signing broken down pitchers Schmidt is really starting to Kris me off" :D

This has become an annual show.
But I'll say it again, if Carl Pav. gets 1.5M you might as well throw long toss. I hope the teams aren't paying mileage $$ to scouts to watch him. He couldn't get AAA hitters out last year. Not Good

Brilliant, dont sign RJ or Hoffman and get Benson!

Benson has always been a guy with tons of stuff who could never put it together, and is really fragile. He did manage to score a huge contract, however. I like to think of Benson as Darren Dreifort-Lite.
Anyway, I am glad it is Logan White who is watching him and not Uncle Ned.

when you talk about a guys wife more then him you know he is not a big deal minor deal and you have have chris.

Lame, lame, lame. Ok, might as well lok at Prior too now.

"Of course he was a bust as the 1st overall draft pick...the Pirates selected him."
Pdogg, you are aware that Benson was named BA's College Player of the Year prior to being drafted? Just like Price was. I know, the Pirates are the butts of many jokes, but at least they drafted the best player in the draft (what he turned out to be is another matter), so you can't really fault them for it. It's not like Benson was like Bryan Bullington or anything...

Well, at least Schmidt will have someone to hang out with... Seriously though, if you can sign him to a minor league deal, he might pay dividends in the pen. Probably similar jokes about Chan Ho last year. It takes 1.5 years to recover from a rotator cuff, unless your Jason Schmidt ;-). That is the remainder of 2007 and all of 2008. He may be alright now. But don't look at him to be a starter. I think they are just trying to fill up the new facility in AZ with the hope that they find another reclamation project on this one.

Not a Yankee fan at all, but seriously think that they should take a serious look at either Bensen, Mulder, or Prior. One of those 3 is bound to have at least a partial decent season this coming year and imagine all can be had on the dirt cheap guaranteed money with high incentives.
