"another year wasting DL space on the way for erik "i rather be playing hockey" bedard."
Well, I'm not so sure.
He let Mariners' fans(including me) down with his disappointing 2008, but even he must realize that he's pitching for his future in 2009.
And by that, I mean how big of a commodity he'll be when he finally hits free agency after the season, as I'm assuming there will be no long-term contract between him and the Mariners at this point. From his point of view, he'll want to have a very good 2009 for that to come to fruition. Of course, he won't likely achieve Type A or B status, but stranger things have happened.
From the M's point of view, they no doubt want the same thing, I'd think. Anything that let's the team trade him at the July 31st deadline and get even 20-30% of what they traded to get him has to be considered a bonus at this point. One pretty good prospect and one so-so prospect in return for Bedard would be like striking gold!

Bedard will have a good year, you heard it from me.

I agree with Gleb. Bedard will have a good year. The M's would be smart to flip him once he puts together a nice run.

Thats the beauty of having good starting pitching. Yes, the whole Bedard situation was a bit of a disaster last year, and Bedard's stock has plummeted. But if we get to the end of June and Bedard has a 2.90 era and is K'ing 10 per 9 and looks healthy, some team might be willing to pay a big bundle for him to try to make a run at a pennant. Lots of GM's out there with short memories.

This will be the 2009 Mariners rotation. Hernandez, Bedard, Morrow, Heilman, and Washburn. That is actually a pretty darn good rotation.
