Mike Gonzalez, Duaner Sanchez Avoid Arb

According to the AP, relievers Mike Gonzalez and Duaner Sanchez have avoided arbitration and signed for '09.

Gonzalez, closer for the Braves, will earn $3.45MM.  He'll join Jose Valverde, Billy Wagner, and others on the free agent market after the season. Sanchez will make $1.6875MM with the Mets.

That's a bit less than I thought Gonzalez would get. Hopefully Atlanta signs Ohman and the bullpen should be set.

No player has ever had the injury he had. So there's a chance he can regain his 2006 form after a full year of recovery.

i gotta admit that i'm glad sanchez is back. Its a shame because before that cab ride he was a very solid 8th inning guy.

if sanchez is 50 percent of what he was before the cab ride he would be a great 7 inning guy. if the mets find one of these relievers to be a good 7th inning guy they should get 6 innings 2 runs on a normal night from each starter. johan goes 7 -8 on normal night giving bullpen rest.
