Ok... anyone else think Sherman is a moron?

His trade ideas are:
1) Soriano for Young. Reason: financial relief for the Cubs and doesn't hurt the hitting. The Cubs have enough middle infielders and would be significantly downgrading a hitter.
2) Zito or Rowand for Young. All I can really say is, why the hell would the Rangers want Zito, even with salary relief. And they have enough outfielders.
3) Young for Carlos Lee. Why would the Astros bother unless they get the money for Young's contract as well.
4) Young for Helton. Helton said he would only waive his no trade clause for the Red Sox, Cardinals, or Braves.

Why exactly do some people think video game trades can translate well into the real world?

young/soriano swap? good idea in theory, i just don't think texas would ever go for it.

"young/soriano swap? good idea in theory, i just don't think texas would ever go for it."

Soriano surely wouldn't go for it...so there is no point.

There's aparently not going to be much market for Young that would net the Rangers anything approaching fair value in return.

Maybe the solution is to see what teams would offer for Andrus... then make sure everyone knows the reason for the trade is that Young doesn't see room for he and Andrus in the same infield.

Rangers could probably get at the very least a decent 3B prospect for Andrus (and maybe more)... which might be more than they can get for Young.

Young for Soriano is a deal that I would like as a Cubs fan, but as aduncaroo said, Soriano isn't waving his NTC to go play for Texas.

The Zito/Rowand suggestion is just silly, because those are two contracts that actually may be worse than Young's.

Rowand is basically the same player as Young, but he plays a mediocre center field instead of a mediocre shortstop.

I think that if any team lands Young, they'll include one not so good contract, but realistically, there aren't many bad contract swap options out there.

The one other one I can think of, that actually may make more sense than any of Sherman's ideas, is the Blue Jays and Vernon Wells.

Wells still has 6/100 left on his deal, and the Blue Jays could surely look into moving him, which is something that was discussed earlier in the offseason.

Texas could add Wells and move Hamilton to a corner spot, with Nelson Cruz and/or Murphy covering the other spot.

Could something like Michael Young, Marlon Byrd and Julio Borbon for Vernon Wells and Marco Scutaro work?

Jays get Young to take over at short long term, Byrd to help replace Wells in center, and Julio Borbon to become Wells' long term replacement. Borbon is a very good CF prospect that should hit for average with great defense and speed, similar to Juan Pierre but more well-rounded and with a much, much better arm.

The Rangers get Wells to become the long term CF, and Scutaro becomes the short term 3B.

Why would they take on the more burdensome contract AND give up extra pieces though?

It's basically a two part deal... Young for Wells, where the Rangers take back a worse contract... And Byrd/Borbon for Scutaro, which makes less than any sense for the Rangers... They need a third baseman, but not a below average one in Scutaro at the cost of Byrd (who's coming off two pretty strong years) and Borbon (who's one of their ten best prospects)...

See, Wells is a much, much better player than Young.

Wells hits for slightly less contact but has much more power, as well as better plate discipline. Add the fact that Wells is a plus defensive CF while Young is below-average at short, and clearly Wells is the better player

Assuming neither team pays any of the contract, Wells at 6/100 is likely better than Young at 5/80.

Maybe the Rangers shouldn't have to include a prospect as good as Borbon, but a lesser guy could make sense.

My idea definitely makes more sense than Young for Helton. Why would Texas ever even give that a thought?

Tim, how are you going to get Utley if you're picking 9th? I like the Napoli, Chris Davis and Devine picks. I don't like the Rios or Rodney picks.

I'd rather have Gardner in CF than Cameron. NO WAY the Yankees initiated that idea.

How about Pie, Cedeno, and Hill for Lou Brock and Bob Gibson?

How about Young and Salty to Boston in return for Bucholz and Lugo.

LOL!!!!!!! You're supposed to EAT the chowdah...NOT smoke it!!

jjyankees,

typically i find the chowder jokes pretty stupid but you are the first person to actually succeed in making a funny joke about it.

Thanx Celts...it's all in good fun. :)

Can I Get some peoples feeling about these thoughts? Why not try to trade camron for Rick Ankeil. I dont want to see anymore good player go to the yanks when they dont want to help anyone else. I mean Rick is an up coming star with one of the best outfeild arms. Let me know what you all think!

Actually a young cheap #3 (possibly #2) pitcher for a not as young or proven extra catching prospect would favor the Rangers, hence the Sox didn'y bite monyhs ago. So given the Rangers have an aging slightly overrated ss on their hands, they could trade for an equally aging ss, with less years on the contract. Allowing the Rangers to move up their hot young prospect at SS, leaving Lugo to back up ss and of spots. It's almost as crazy as overspending in a declining free agent market.
