I would hope the Reds have at least explored trading for Nady. If Jerry Hariston Jr. is their starting LF next year, It's going to be a joke.
They have potential to turn some heads with all of their youth. Nady could be a good fit in Cincinnati.

What would they be willing to give up for Nady?
Posted by: Agent | January 06, 2009 at 05:04 PM
Yankees do not trade Nady. Trade Swisher and someone else.

I think Daryl Thompson and maybe a mid-lower level prospect could possibly get Nady. The Yankees got to see first hand Thompson pitch against them last year in his short call up. It all depends on how much they are really wanting to move him or Swisher.

Is is really a surprise that Tex picked the Yankees over the Sox? One is the winningist franchise in pro sports with the richest tradition...13 straight playoffs till last year...been in 6 of the last 13 World Series winning 4 of them...moving into a new zillion dollar ballpark...who just signed two of the best free-agent pitchers...and is two hours closer to his home. The other has one two titles in 90 years. Nuff said.
As for Nady to the Reds...would Harang be in that convo? Not straight up...but the as part of a deal? Reds seem to have some good young pitching and Harang is a quality pitcher who had a rough year and makes a ton of cash. Never know.

"I think Daryl Thompson and maybe a mid-lower level prospect could possibly get Nady"
Nady can bring a lot more than Thompson. Also, they don't have to move ANY OF's. Matsui is DH, gardner in CF, Nady in RF, Swish backing up all three and Tex. No need to make a deal unless it fills a major need. Also, Thompson was hardly dazzling last year in his cup-o-coffee.

jjyankessfan2, no way the Reds would trade Harang to the Yanks for Nady and a package. I know that package wouldn't come with very much upside. The Yanks wouldn't trade much more with Nady IMO. Harang is a good value for the Reds with the way that some teams are over paying for Pitching.

Tex press conference was an embarrassing exhibition of brown nosing. Everytime a player signs with the Yankees, it's not about the money at all. "prepare to be assimilated..resistance is fultile". Welcome to the Borg Mark.

It's not like the Sox, Nats and O's were offering him $8 per hour. When you're speaking about a nine-figure offers, all close...it IS about the team you want to play for. Like I said above, the Yankees offer the chance to win every year, a new ballpark and are a few hours from his home.

2 in the last 90 has nothing to do with it. if you honestly think that nowadays free agents are saying "oh they have only won twice in the last 90 years so i don't have a chance to get a ring there" you are a fool. it's more like "oh they've won twice in the past 5 years so they clearly are put in a position to win." some people would prefer to play for the yankees and some would prefer to play for the red sox. congrats for being another ignorant tool.

Seriously Harrang as part of a Nady trade is nuts. Harrang did have a bad year last year considering is previous work for the Reds but NO! sorry I dont even consider getting rid of Harrang. I look for him to have a big comeback year unless the Reds can't score more than 3 runs a game.
I also think Thompson is a little weak for Nady. Probably would have to be one of the pitchers above Thompson to get something going on this deal. Forget Cueto and Volquez they are not going anywhere. and Honestly I hope to god that they Keep Arroyo I like him on the team.

The Reds would keep Stubbs and his minimum salary once reaching the majors than trading him for Nady.It will be interesting to see who the Reds try to get to fill the LF position. I think the Yanks would want pitching for Nady, and I'm not sure the Reds would trade Bailey for him, you never know though. They seem to be wanting to push him out of the Nati

Oh Sweeney, you played what, maybe 300 games in a 6 year period? Why don't you give some of that money back so they Royals can sign Orlando Hudson, and we will let you sit on the bench and be a "motivational leader." You made about 60 Mil a year doing so, so why don't you do it for being the "good guy" the organization made you out to be. Makes me laugh.

Seriously Yanks don't need pitching, unless its a prospect they would flip (ie Bailey). They need a CF and like most of baseball a young catcher that can hit.
Posted by: JudgeNY | January 06, 2009 at 09:33 PM
Why are they shopping Nady ? Are they going to sign Manny or resign Abreu. Nady was great for the Yanks. I dont like their thinking on this. Trade Matsui, Melky, but not Nady
Posted by: TripleHHH | January 06, 2009 at 09:38 PM
Yea Nady would be the last of those (Damon, Swisher, Matsui) players I'd want to trade from a statistical standpoint, but he brings the most in return. Nady is also most likely gone after this season, so the thinking might be to add some depth now, when he has the most value. The Yanks can always add an even better corner outfield bat (ie Holliday) with their pitching prospect depth during the season, if Matsui doesn't come back to form or if Swisher can't rebound.

"The Giants and Rich Aurilia maintain mutual interest, though the Giants want to address the offense first."---HAHA! Tim, made me laugh hysterically! I miss the days where Aurilia was considered part of the offense

give yanks b phillips for nady and a prospect! then can deal cano and pitcher for kemp!
Posted by: Taylor89 | January 07, 2009 at 04:08 PM
phillips for nady?
haha...i hope you aren't serious. If you want phillips you had better be throwing cano into the deal or WJ will hang up the phone.
Posted by: coltholt | January 07, 2009 at 04:37 PM
and i am not saying phillips for nady and cano. that would make me sound about as bad as taylor with his out there idea...
i meant that the reds have no reason to trade phillips and there it would be stupid to replace his bat with an OF who isn't a GG. Because in case you forgot, phillips is a GG. So to move phillips, cano would have to be involved. If you think it is stupid, the don't bother even talking about going after phillips. simple as that
