Big Signing....Indianapolis could be tough this year.

Hey now, give the Pirates some credit. For no real support they still manage to get decent players. Now that the Rays won't be getting the first round picks, expect within the next 5 years for the old Pirates to come up again.

Rays will still be getting first round picks...annually... Pirates have just made some unlucky draft choices (not taking Upton I believe), could happen to any team.

.202/.274/.405 isn't decent... this guy is done.

Yeah, instead of the Rays getting the high first round picks, expect the Mariners to. They did just hire one of the highest respected scouts in the league to run their team.

Yeah, I don't see this guy doing anything. He's a scrub.
I would actually love the Pirates to sign Eric Hinske. He'd be a perfect fit. Provides some outfield pop and he could even play first if we decide to trade Adam LaRoche.

Why would the Pirates give at bats to Craig Monroe over Steve Pearce, Brandon Moss or Andrew McCutchen?
They might as well go McLouth, McCutchen and Moss, or Pearce, McLouth and Moss until McCutchen is ready.
This is what bad teams do: Give at bats to aging veterans, when they might as well give them to young guys who actually have some upside.

As usual, I couldn't agree with you more. Hopefully, they'll just use him as AAA filler/ST competition.

werent they going after him a year or two ago? For some reason i remember his name popping up.
anyway between nate mcclouth, brandon moss, steve pearce, nyger morgan, and the eventual Andrew McCutchen and Jose Tabata - Craig Monroe will provide that much more starting competition (cough, cough Pearce and Morgan)
it's only a minor league contract don't forget!!

At least you still have the Steelers.

Bigpat I agree the Bucs should go after Hinske but he'll end up in Japan. No one here will offer him a contract. Hopefully Pearce will tear it up in ST. I wish they'd go after Gomes.

Not a bad signing. He had a couple good years with the Tigers. Maybe he'll impress them in Spring Training and give McCutchen some more time at AAA. Brandon Moss is injury prone so this could give them some more depth at the corner outfield spots.

But it's depth with a guy that can't get on base to save his life
There is such a thing as bad depth.
Like playing your crap extra outfielders over young guys who need/deserve the playing time.
And people wonder why Pittsburgh hasn't been decent in 15 years..

ill tell you why the pirates are were there at today... look at the drafts... 1998 we took Clint Johnson we passed on Brad Lidge and C.C Sabathia... 1999 We took Bobby Bradley with the 8th overall pick... we passed on Barry Zito. Ben Sheets. Brett Myers. Jason Jennings. Alex Rios. Brian Roberts. Carl Crawford. Brandon Phillips...2002 we took bryan bullington first overall! we passed on BJ Upton.Prince Fielder. Jeff Francis. Jermemy Hermida. Joe Saunders. Scott Kazmir. Nick Swisher. Cole Hamels. James Loney. Jeff Francoeur. Joe Blanton. Matt Cain. 2006 Brad Lincoln (he still might turn out but look what we could of had!) Clayton Kershaw. Tim Lincecum. and Ian Kennedy.
thats why the pirates are were they are today. with picks like Clint Johnson, Bobby Bradley, Bryan Bullington, maby Brad Lincoln, and now the most recent Daniel Moskos over Matt Wieters!
