« Dodgers Sign Guillermo Mota | Main | Red Sox Still Eyeing Miguel Montero »
According to La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Twins hope to sign outfielder-DH Jason Kubel to a two-year deal. Such a contract would cover his last two arbitration years. Kubel, 27 in May, hit .272/.335/.471 in 517 plate appearances in '08.
Neal says the Twins are just looking to do one year with their other arbitration-eligible player, reliever Matt Guerrier.

Kubel is a good lefty bat with some pop, and I don't think people realize what a key cog to their lineup he is.
They really should have signed Kubel to a long deal over Cuddyer.

Makes sense - I believe they have 6-7 others hitting arbitration for the first time next year, get Kubnuts signed and taken care of - all his numbers are headed in the right direction.

Yeah, Kubel is one of the few Twins players who's not a slap-hitter. Still think he's going to break out one of these days.

he always kills us, but then again what twin doesn't? ....i think the 91 mph fastball he hit off of javy vazquez last september is still traveling

Kubel is solid. He has had some injury issues earlier in his career, so that might be their concern when it comes to a long-term deal. But I'd expect 20-25 HR, around an .820 OPS from him, if not slightly better. gives them a little pop.
