Isn't Gagne's agent Scott Boras?

That he is.

If Boras is his agentm the starting offer will have to be something like 4 years, $36 million.

Remember that Boras is open to affordable 1 year deals to reestablish value for his clients. It really worked for Lohse.

Potentially that is a pretty decent 1-2 combo. Gagne for the 8th only because he is done as a closer. Even though I am not a Twinkies fan, I do think these signings are good fits for the club.

Lyon, a type B, posted a 4.7 ERA and has a career 4.5 ERA... and wants 4.5+ mil per for 2 years like Farnsworth. Ick.
Setting up Nathan wouldn't be bad idea until Neshek comes back. But this guy and his agent has to realize that the Farnsworth deal was an anomaly. The worst deal of the offseason.
Don't get me started on Gagne. He didn't pitch well for the Red Sox as setup and continued to pitch poorly in the NL. He should be treated as a middle reliever.

lyon's overall numbers last year were largely inflated by chase field.
home - 29.1 IP, 7.06 ERA, 48 H, 26 runs, 7 BB, 24 K, .356 BAA.
away - 30 IP, 2.40 ERA, 27 H, 8 runs, 6 BB, 20 K, .237 AVG.
those numbers are staggering. his K/BB ratio is almost the same yet his hits allowed, batting average against and runs are astronomically different in the same amount of innings pitched. i think he would be more along the lines of his away self pitching in the metrodome, and would be a great signing as a setup man at the right price, say 2 years, 7 mil.

I like either one, especially if we could get a decent second-year option on Gagne.

Good Luck Twins on Gagne, save your money bring up a kid.
I am sure some Red Sox fans will back me up on this. Probably Brewer fans too.

As a Brewer fan I'd say that Gagne is likely going to be a bargain. He was pretty decent after his trip to the DL and the majority of his issues were injury related last year.
Now he isn't going to be a sub 3 ERA guy, but a mid to high 3 ERA guy. So it really depends on what they are paying for.

I love the intellectual talk unlike those idiots on Sportsline's Twins message board.
I really like the idea of Gagne if we can get him for the estimated 3-3.5 mil a year with a second year option.
However, if it's one or the other - I'd still prefer Lyon because he still has a bigger upside and isn't on the back-end of his career.

I think the Twins are missing out on a huge potential bargain in Juan Cruz. His type A status has scared teams off and I don't think I can recall a single team inquiring. The hell with the draft pick, most of them don't pan out anyway.
