Twins Rumors: Kawakami, Lyon, Saito, Mota

La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune has the latest hot stove info on the Twins.

The Twins don't appear to be currently negotiating with Kenshin Kawakami - starting pitching isn't top priority currently. Neal says that could change if they need to package a starter in a trade.
Reliever names on the radar: Brandon Lyon, Takashi Saito, and Guillermo Mota. Lyon may be out of their price range.

Hmm, why would the Twins be interested in Lyon? They certainly don't need a closer and Lyon wasn't a very good closer anyway. With the Twins he'd be just another average right-handed reliever, and given that he's got the closer tag he'd be expensive for a run of the mill reliever. Maybe they think they'd be getting a setup man, but just look at his stats, he wouldn't even be a great setup man. Just another reason why the save stat is so overrated, though I doubt Brandon Lyon agrees with me right now.

He was an awesome setup man before being moved to the closer role, and he wasn't successful at all because he isn't a dominate pitcher.

Still would like to see them go get Cruz but odds are they pick up somone like Borowski than any guy with a hint of talent.

Heaven forbid we do something that would give us any roster flexibility. What an outrageous idea.
