Arb Hearings Postponed For Aybar, Santana

According to the AP, arbitration hearings for Willy Aybar and Ervin Santana were postponed until next week.  11 other players also have pending hearings.

O...kay?

Maybe the Rays can sign Aybar and hopefully not get him pissed off.

Rays and Aybar's agent have already said they have a 3 year deal done, just hasn't been announced.

I wonder what causes a continuance of these arb hearings.

Angels definitely have the money pay Santana what he wants since they signed 2 bats at less than $10 million total. Add that, Brian Fuentes, and a few of the other arbitration settlements, Angels probably have about another $15 to $20 million left to spend. That's a lot. With that I don't see why Santana's hearing should be postponed. And I think in order for him to get exactly the salary he wants, Santana needs to put up one more consistent season because he still only a year removed from that horrible season he had in 2007. I think some of these players, especially some of the players that have left Anaheim, are overrating themselves a bit too early. Maybe its because their farm system gets rated so high, and the coaches compliment them so much that these kids let it get to their heads, and then start expecting BIG raises after only a few years in the Majors. Someone needs to give these Angels prospects a reality check.

Begs the questions: Who are the 11 other players and which days next week are their respective hearings?
I'm sure I could find that out by searching various other sites on the Web, but the convenience of having all that info in one place is what I've come to expect from mlbtr.

Don't know the schedule of hearings but the other 11 are

1. Conor Jackson
2. Jeff Francouer
3. Kelly Johnson
4. Edwin Encarnacion
5. Mike Jacobs
6. Andre Ethier
7. Corey Hart
8. Nate McClouth
9. Ryan Ludwick
10. Josh Willingham
11. Ryan Zimmerman

The hearing schedule is not given out by the MLBPA. News of the hearing schedule normally comes by way of an agent or reporters.

In answer to the question as to why the there is a postponement, it has to do with the fact that both Aybar and Santana are on the verge of contract settlements. Aybar is said to be reaching a two-year deal with an option for 2011. Word on Santana's contract has not yet surfaced.

Hearings run through Friday the 20th, if the remaining 13 players do not reach settlements before then.

On Aybar... The gap between offering and asking figures represents the smallest in this year's class ($150,000). The next closest was Shawn Camp of the Blue Jays at $250,000.
