« Mariners Hot Stove Update: Griffey, Abreu, Anderson | Main | Latest On Randy Wolf, Braden Looper »
Twins right-hander Scott Baker said recently that he would be open to signing a long-term deal to stay in Minnesota. Kelly Thesier has the report over at MLB.com.
"I have definitely entertained the idea of it." Baker said. "I like this place. I like playing here. I like the coaching staff and obviously we have a great clubhouse. It's kind of up to them, but I definitely have thought about it."
Multiyear deals for pitchers can be risky, but Baker has shown the kind of consistency over the past two seasons that would warrant long-term consideration by most teams. He is 20-13 with a 3.81 ERA in 381 innings since the start of 2007 and is still only 27 years of age.

If Baker is willing to sign a long term deal, i'd definitely go for it. With the new stadium opening in 2010 the Twins should jump on this opportunity and get him on board through 2013/ 2014. He is a proven starter and has been healthy most of his career. The ball is in the Twins court.

One of my favorite starters in the game today. Twins should lock him up quick in my opinion.

This guy is extremely consistent and if he is open to a long term deal at a decent price, the Twins should go for it. He reminds me of Brad Radke, no real basis for the comp. other than the fact that he doesn't walk anyone.

1988 ... I believe it's 1987 :D
I definitely say lock him up if we can, we need to get a head start on all of the young, promising starters.

This is great for the Twins. Baker wants to stay there and is a young ace!

baker's only going to get better. he could've won 16 games or so last year with some run support. picturing a baker/liriano tandem atop the rotation for the next few years makes me smile. then i think about slowey as the #3 guy and my cheeks fall off.

Baker's a rock and this would be a solid move for the Twins. Now, if they could only manage that whole third base thing...

This would be a great start on getting some players locked up. Baker is so under rated.

Baker and Slowey both need to get locked up this year or next year before they get too pricey with arbitration. They are going to be very key components in that rotation for the next 4-5 years.

First rumor all off season that I have liked for the Twins other then the Hardy rumors. Which we found out were nothing.
With Liriano, Baker, and Slowey manning our starting rotation we would be one of the top rotations in baseball for years to come.

The Twins locking up their ace before he reaches free agency? Sounds like a good idea. One we haven't tried in a while. I'd like to see it happen, but not before Mauer.
