« Twins, Matt Guerrier Avoid Arbitration | Main | Mariners Sign Tyler Johnson »
According to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian, the Blue Jays claimed pitcher T.J. Beam off waivers from the Pirates and designated infielder Russ Adams for assignment.
Beam, 28, posted a 4.14 ERA and 4.7 K/9 in 45.6 innings for the Pirates last year. The Bucs had signed him as a free agent in January of '08, but designated him for assignment a few days ago to make room for Eric Hinske.
Adams, 28, hit .259/.341/.417 at Triple A this year. He was drafted 14th overall in 2002. He was the team's starter at shortstop and second base at various points in '05 and '06.

I'd like to see the Tigers sign him, even though they have Adam Everett. Adams is still young, can play every infield position, and is a lefty batter.

Im surprised it took this long for a team to sign Beam. He is a serviceable reiliver who can get it done. Does walk a few more than he should though.

Unless he has really gotten it together of later, he really can't.
He just can't make the throw across the diamond with any regularity.

Sorry, but Beam is trash. He will get lit up being back in the AL East.

T.J Beam
well not really that bad of a move
i think Russ Adams is done with the Blue Jays

Agreed. Russ Adams is a below average second baseman at best.
Could JP heart waivered pitchers anymore than he does?

Beam was mediocre for Pitt but his AAA numbers the last three seasons are impressive.
Not like the Jays needed another reliever.
Adams might catch on as a Ryan Freel type somewhere, but I expect he (and Thigpen) clear waivers.

The excitement never ends for us Jays fans.

Adams played in RF last year.

Adams just isn't very good in the in field at times. The commentators always said he looked scared that the ball would go to him. Not a good quality in a SS or 2B

Whats the record for the GM who has made the most waiver claims, JP has to be approaching it.

DFA'd his own 1st round pick, not bad Ricciardi! Mediocrity outside of the bullpen since 2001

How is Adam's glove?

You dont know what your talking about. Jays had the 3rd best offence in the league in 2006. Their bullpen is what sucked.
