Cardinals Avoid Arb With Ryan Ludwick

5:26pm: That was quick.  ESPN.com's Jayson Stark has learned that the deal is worth $3.7MM and carries another $100K in incentives.

5:22pm: Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals have reached agreement with Ryan Ludwick on a one-year deal.

The exact financial terms are not yet available, but Goold believes "that the two sides settled for above the midpoint of the two salaries entered into arbitration."  Ludwick filed for $4.25MM and the Cardinals offered $2.8MM back when figures were due.

The Cardinals have now settled with all of their arbitration-eligible players.  The club hasn't required a hearing since 1999.

Got a text alert from ESPN saying it was for 3.7mil.

This guy is worth way more than Adam Dunn. 3.7mil, the Cardinals FO should be doing cart-wheels.

So i guess he's not going to the Braves...bummer.

"This guy is worth way more than Adam Dunn. 3.7mil, the Cardinals FO should be doing cart-wheels."

I tend to agree, given that the guy is actually adept at fielding his position and can even play CF in a pinch. Still, it remains to be seen if he can keep this production up for more than one year.

For as cheap and inept as many make the Cardinals FO to be, not having an arb case since 1999 says something. Happy to see both Ankiel and Ludwick signed without a nasty hearing. Big thangs poppin' this year, watch out scrubbies.
