According to MLB.com's Matthew Leach, the Cardinals are close to an agreement with outfielder Ryan Ludwick on his '09 salary. Ludwick cancelled plans to fly to Arizona for his hearing tomorrow. Both Ludwick and Cards GM John Mozeliak say small details remain. Ludwick had requested $4.25MM, the Cardinals $2.8MM.

Still no arb for the cardinals! Cool...Now we know how much is on our current roster...could MO be working on a sign in trade for Orlando Hudson to avoid losing the 1st round draft pick?

I think the Cards will make a trade or addition sometime into ST. It will be a starting pitcher if they feel they need one. Just my feeling as I don't think they will spend any big money this year. They will stick to pushing the young guys...its working.
A Brian Roberts would be nice...but Hudson is not what we need-a guy who has demonstrated he can't stay healthy a full season. He's overrated IMO.

There is nothing overrated about Hudson. He has done nothing but improve as an offensive player and is still a great defender, notwithstanding last year's aberrational plus/minus. Hudson's injuries have been due to bad luck, not any inherent nature.
That said, Brian Roberts is the best all around 2B in the AL and second only to Chase Utley in all of baseball. Not much of a comparison.

This is good news, the Cards haven't been to arbitration since 1999 when they won the case with Darren Oliver

Um...what about Ian Kinsler and Dustin Pedroia? Pedroia - AL MVP and Gold Glove. I have heard Roberts is a good defensive 2B but he has never won the gold glove. Kinsler is suppose to be a good defensive 2B as well and put up some great numbers too. I like Roberts alot but even if we are just comparing current numbers, I gotta give the edge to Kinsler and Pedroia, even if I do dislike the Red Sox. That all being said, I would take Roberts on the Cardinals any day of the week. It is just never going to happe though.

I like both Pedroia and Kinsler, but Pedroia benefited from playing under the Boston spotlight and Kinsler is a defensive butcher who is injury prone. Pedroia and Roberts are basically equals statistically, but Roberts has better speed. He also plays on a terrible team and doesn't have the benefit of the same kind of protection that Pedroia does.
