« O's Avoid Arb With George Sherrill | Main | Manny Ramirez Rumors: Friday »
Twins CEO Jim Pohlad shared some thoughts with a group of reporters, including MLB.com's Kelly Thesier, on Friday afternoon. It sounds like the club still has a few transactions in mind.
"We're not done. The season hasn't started yet," Pohlad said. "Frequently, transactions do occur during Spring Training, so it still could happen. There is nothing from us saying, 'Don't go get anyone. We're done. Go into the season and keep your fingers crossed.' ... We still have room in our payroll, and if there are opportunities [to add a player], we'll pursue them.
The Twins' No. 1 target at this point seems to be third baseman Joe Crede. They reached agreement with reliever Luis Ayala earlier today and have also been linked to Jarrod Washburn, though those talks have reportedly fallen through.

I would hope so. The Twins could use a guy like Crede. But please, stay away from Washburn!

I don't see how Crede is going to be the end of the Twins off-season. Crede has so much to prove its not even funny. His back status is still in the air and nobody knows if he will be ready for the majors come opening day. If Crede gets signed, they should look for another back-up for the high possibility that Crede goes down again.

the twins have an adequate backup in a harris/buscher platoon. signing crede for 4 mil plus incentives is far from a huge risk

Its extremely huge risk figuring he hasn't been healthy in years. If he continues to have problems the Twins are just throwing away 4 mil out the window. a 2-3 mil contract is a hell of a lot better then a 4-5.

It should be noted that he said this before the Ayala agreement was announced.

Just hope they dont overspend on Crede like they did on Ayala.

Still interesting why they are looking at Crede and all of his back misery history to play on that artificial turf and also with him being a Boras client to boot. He's probably not going to sign cheap and they let Wiggington go by already who would have probably hit lots better and been on the field longer, even though he isn't anywhere near the defensive player Crede is while Crede is healthy.
Just curious whay they are even after Crede with all the negatives, both health risk and BORAS wise period sign ability wise. Maybe wait a month or 2 into the season until the Mariners fall out of contention yet again and see what they can get him for? Mariners have to relent some time.

The Twins have new turf. And from playing on stuff very to exactly similar before, I like it much better than grass.

Oh, they're done, alright. Not in signing players, just done in the sense of competing for a title. LOL.
