« Lefties May Be Lowering Contract Expectations | Main | Dodgers Make New Offer To Manny Ramirez »
10:28pm: Quentin gets $550K, while Floyd and John Danks get $520K according to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune.
11:42am: The AP reports today that the White Sox signed 22 players, including Carlos Quentin and Gavin Floyd. Par for the course with prearb players, and we don't always mention these signings on MLBTR. I am curious, though, to see if the Sox threw Quentin and Floyd a few extra hundred thousand bucks over the minimum as teams sometimes do.

First!!!! Floyd deserves a bonus after last year

Second!!!!!! Wheeeee!!!!!
Seriously though, I still don't trust Floyd (this is coming from a Phils fan) but when are they both eligible for Arb? Quentin looks to be a stud and it might not be a bad thing to give him a longish term contract especially with the economy so poor so they could justify something like $5-$6 mil per year?

No reason to be curious. They wouldn't. I remember the standoff they had with Buehrle one year. The organization was very clear it has a salary structure in place for pre-arb players and it doesn't deviate from it.

Even if they would -- I think the most teams usually give over the minimum is a few thousand dollars, not 100k.

I was just thinking of how certain stars like Hamels, Fielder, and Howard have gotten anywhere from 500 to 900K.

Quentin is worth like 20 times that at least...

Does Hamilton and Quentin have the same number of years of experience? Because Hamilton is better than Quentin, and Quentin got paid just a tad more than Hamilton did ($50K difference).

Guess you win this round Tim, looks like you were right. :)

Quentin is a one year wonder, he's not gonna put up 35 homers again. Yes, it was a great year he had and if he stayed healthy he could have won MVP. But I don't think he's worth what everyone thinks he is. I think people will find that out pretty quickly 2-3 months into the year.

And what exactly makes you say that?

I don't think Quentin was a one year wonder, he was pretty good in the minors for Arizona, but he was hurt when he go to the pros for the Diamondbacks. Will he put up 35 as fast as he did last year? Maybe not, but over 162 games he should be able to get 30-35 homers and 100 RBI's.
That said, I would like the Sox to wait at least until the end of this season to sign him long term, make sure he didn't really hurt himself when he broke his wrist.
