Carroll Rogers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution talked to Chipper Jones' agent, B.B. Abbott. From Rogers:
Abbott said Chipper has decided to loosen any expectation that he might have an extension worked out with the Braves by the end of spring training. Abbott said he’s willing to continue negotiating after the season starts.
Placing an appropriate dollar value on Jones will not be easy. Factors include his amazing bat, ability to continue playing a credible third base, injury profile, and popularity.

Wren has to sign Chipper to an extension, hopefully before the season begins so it's not a distraction to him and the team.
Chipper is the last remaining Braves Icon and he still performs at an amazingly high level. I know he's never going to play more than 130 games in a season again, but he's still more valuable than most 3B who play 162 games.
In the past, Chipper has taken less money/deferred money to help the team. I don't see why he wouldn't do that again. He's probably worth 3 years and $40MM, but I could see him taking a 3 year, $30MM deal with a large portion deferred if it helps the club exercise Hudson's option and maybe get another impact player next year.

Whatever it takes, do it Wren. Chipper is one of the best hitting 3B's ever, one of the best switch hitters ever, and one of the best teammates ever.

Future HoF that has to stay in Atl. Both Smoltz and Glavine have played elsewhere. Its hard being an older Braves fan watching the guys you thought were life timers put on other team uniforms.

I'd like to see "Mr. Brave" Chipper Jones stay with the team for the entirety of his career, but the reality may be that he becomes more valuable as a DH as he ages.

Is it possible that Chipper becomes the Braves LF or 1B in the future? That way they could easily justify the extension without much difficulty.

Why is everyone so concerned with him at 3B? He's totally fine there. His injuries have all been while on offense, save for the hamstring thing a few years ago - when he played LF.

I don't think there's anyway Chipper could play LF again. That's where his foot problem started and he couldn't cover the ground required without injuring himself further.
There has been talk about him moving to 1B, but he really likes 3B and would prefer to stay there for the rest of his career.
Also, I think Freddie Freeman is the Braves 1B of the future.

He's one of the better 3Bs defensively and he can always move and play good LF or 1B.
I'd think 2years/30m should be fair for both sides

And age, don't forget, is another variable to consider, tho that affects length more than salary.
Stil, he's worth a lot and he wants to stay so I say it gets done. I'll guess 2 years, $38M with an option for a 3rd year.

Wow you guys are overvaluing him way too much. Chipper is not worth $19 million a year rememberthecoop. Only if we had Yankee money we would pay him that much. Also paying him $15 million a year is exaggerating it viktor. I would be happier giving him 10-12 million a year on a 2-year extension. He is getting old guys and older players just aren't worth $15-19 million. I would like to see a 2 year, $20-24M with an option.
