Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker passes along a Nikkan Sports report: the Giants released pitcher Keiichi Yabu. The Giants could re-sign him to a minor league deal. GM Brian Sabean cited Yabu's age, 40, when demoting him earlier this month. Sabean mentioned at the time that he'd attempt to trade Yabu. The righty posted a 3.57 ERA, 6.35 K/9, and 4.2 BB/9 in 68 innings last year.

I've never heard of him. Was he any good, Giants fans?

Fred Flinstone says "Yabu dabu du?"
Odd that Sabean, a man with a known affinity for the older folks, would fail to cite anything other than age as reason for his demotion and release. How about, "He gave up too many walks." or "He was stinking it up in camp."

Brian Sabean is bipolar.
One minute he signs RJ and the next, he releases Yabu.
3.57 ERA deserves a little respect, no? Although, the walk rate is atrocious.

Yabu was decent.... i guess you could say he pitched better than we expected of him

he started the year very strong but after he got injured he wasnt the same
I'll always remember him for the game the Giants turned a triple play. Yabu was on the mound

Not only a triple play, but a ONE PITCH triple play 5-4-3!
Yabu was decent. He would have stretches where he was dominant, but then get shelled for a couple times in a row....He was the work horse....when the pen was taxed, they'd put in Yabu and he'd give it his best...
I have a ball signed by him in English and Japanese...
