« Offseason In Review: St. Louis Cardinals | Main | Kevin Slowey Q&A »
According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers released reliever Brendan Donnelly today. Donnelly allowed five runs in six spring innings, striking out five and walking one.
Donnelly, 37, was on a $950K minor league deal. He had Tommy John surgery in '07 and played at various levels in the Indians organization last year.
The Rangers now have seven pitchers fighting for four bullpen slots, including offseason imports Derrick Turnbow and Jimmy Gobble (and possibly Jason Jennings).

I really hope Turnbow makes it

I think Turnbow likely gets a spot, he posts big K rates and has been dominant when he's kept the ball in the park.
Then again, that career 5.87 BB/9 rate is brutal, and his HR/9 rate has been quite volatile.
Not to mention that his fastball velocity was substantially lower than normal in Milwaukee last year. I haven't heard if it's bounced back, but if he's not maintaining his 94-98 MPH fastball, then I doubt he can be a decent reliever with his lack of command.

Wasn't Donnelly mentioned in the Mitchell report? In any case, I think you can stick a fork in him.

Yeah he was. Poor Donkey, the last of the replacement players is gone.
The Angels wouldn't even allow him to have his picture taken with them when they won the WS since the Union wouldn't allow any replacement players to be involved in anything after the strike was settled. Really classy of them huh? They may not have ever made it without the 8th inning relief work of the Donkey.

I really hope he's signed by the Royals so we can see him and Jose Guillen square off every Friday on HBO.
