Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe heard from major league sources that the Red Sox will not sign Barry Bonds. They join four other teams who will not pursue him.
Jeff Borris, Bonds's agent, asked GMs to consider Bonds in a letter sent to all 30 MLB teams.

I shocked, SHOCKED to find that the Red Sox would pass on Bonds as a replacement for Manny's self-centered douchebaggery.

Alright, Rays, your turn to say your not interested.
If we wanted self centered POS's, we would still have Young and Dukes.

Didn't Bonds once say that he would consider playing for any team EXCEPT the Red Sox? I was surprised to hear that his agent contacted all 30 teams. I would have thought they would only contact 29, minus the Red Sox.

You might be thinking of Manny. He was willing to go to whoever the highest bidder was, unless it was somehow the Red Sox.

I could be wrong but didn't Bonds say that Boston was a racist town? I thought i heard that from somewhere

Yeah he said it, but has since retracted the statement after having spent a few days there. From an article by Bob Hohler in the Globe in 2007:
"He struck a softer tone in his interview with the Globe. He said he visited Boston for the first time after the Globe quoted him in 2004 as saying, "Boston is too racist for me. I couldn't play there."
Though Bonds made clear in the interview that he had never visited the city and based his view on the opinions of others -- both of which the Globe reported -- his remarks caused consternation throughout the community as Boston prepared to host the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
He said he no longer harbors any malice toward Boston. Bonds's 17-year-old son, Nikolai, spent the 2005-06 academic year at Valley View School in North Brookfield, a private boarding school that describes itself as "a therapeutic environment for boys between the ages of 11 and 16 who are having trouble coping with their family, the world around them, and themselves." Bonds visited the school, about 60 miles west of Boston, for a parents' day.
"I had a good time in Boston when I was there," he said."

Thanks for those quotes, ilikebaseball. I hadn't read them before now. It was probably those "racist" comments I was thinking of, but at least he's come around on his thinking on that. At least that's one negative to take off his list.

He probably watched too many Spike Lee movies.

Boston is one of the most liberal cities. But compared to San Fran, we sure are racist :).

I really want to see Bonds play again. Boston is passing on a championship here. They will regret it when JD is hurt and Rocco is unable to play everyday. He would be a great backup to Youk at 1B too when he or lowell needs a day off.

No thanks. If Manny was a clubhouse cancer, Bonds is clubhouse radiation poisoning. In recent memory, the only people worse were John Rocker and Albert Belle.

No shocker here... Boston is already pretty well set on the offensive side of the game. With Bay, Ellsbury, Drew and Rocco in the OF and Ortiz at DH, there really isn't even room on the roster, let alone playing time.
The only situation where Boston would really want to go out and sign him is if one of their OF'ers went down with a serious injury... Given the complete lack of demand for Bonds, they have plenty of time to wait.

Send him to the BRONX where all washed up outfielders end up after their PEDS are gone!

I've never seen a poster so obsessed with the Yankees as Red Sox Dynasty. It's amazing. This is an article about Bonds and the Red Sox, yet he is the first and only to bring up the Yankees. Get over it.

Well everyone knows how much of an idiot he is Chris, just by looking at his name already gives that away.

Being called an idiot by a yankee's fan is a little hypocritical to say the least!
