I'm surprised. I thought he was a lock to be the first manager to go. I wonder if the players actually like this.

the owner of the company i work for in houston is friends with a lot of the players and they come into our office regularly...from what they have told me none of the players like cecil cooper. i think the only reason he got the job is because he is black, and it would have been considered "racist" had he not gotten the job. i think he is an awful manager

kind of a messed up thing to make up ryno. there isn't a chance in hell multiple players would publicly admit to some business owner that they hate their manager for fear of the public backlash. Being a closet racist isn't healthy man, put your hood back in the drawer and throw your computer in the pool of booze and broken dreams in your backyard.

Gscott, i am not a racist in the least bit and i'm not making this up. i heard berkman say it himself, and my boss always repeats it. phil garner, berkman, bagwell, biggio, and oswalt have all come into the office before...and i honestly don't care if you believe me or not. im sorry you think i am racist cause i am not, but your opinion is your own

lol I dont believe the players are throwing Cecil under the bus like that. What company do you work for? Enron? LOL

So, do you just copy verbatim from Rotoworld?
"Cooper's record since he took over in 2007 is 104-98, but his club is off to a 3-7 start this season so the timing is a bit strange. "

Hmm, running your team based on reports in the press. That sounds like a GREAT idea! Too bad Bush didn't run the war in Iraq that way. Oh, wait.....
Yeah, this is a bad idea. Doing things to spite the press or doing things because of the press in general is not the way to run a franchise. $10 says that if Rosenthal hadn't mentioned Cooper as the most likely to get fired first he wouldn't have his extension now.

The issue with the Astros is that they're aging (oldest team in MLB) and performance is replacement level or lower after Berkman, Carlos Lee (although that contract is looking ugly), Wandy, Oswalt, Pence, and Valverde.
Not Cooper.

LOL Are you kidding? Bush didn't listen to the press. Unauthorized, he went into Iraq. Nobody but his cabinet was like, "Hey George, lets invade Iraq, regulate the oil, and set up military bases." Thats a ridiculous comparison. If George Bush was listening to the press, do you think that we would still be there? UM NO.

You can say whatever you want about the Astros, but comparing the way they run their organization to the way Bush ran our country is wrong.

I like Cecil Cooper anyways. They need to fire Sean Berry.

Ah, I see where you're coming from. You're one of those people who automatically disagreed with everything he did without thinking, just like the press did, so of course you take the press position that the war was all his fault. If you were even slightly less biased and were able to look at it from a non-liberal perspective you'd see that he did run the war by listening to press reports. You simply cannot run a PC war, it's been proven twice now. If he hadn't listened to the press we probably wouldn't still be there because when the Generals run the war instead of the "journalists" things get done a lot quicker.
To take this back to baseball, no doubt in my mind that Drayton McClane mad this decision based on what Rosenthal wrote. That seems like the kind of guy he is and well, look at the state of his franchise right now. I've got nothing against Cooper but basing a decision to re-up the guy based on what's written in the press is a terrible idea. 'Nuff said.

One last thing RoyOswaltSteroidFree, you should probably explain your "Unauthorized" comment. Perhaps you're not aware that the UN or the American press aren't the sanctioning bodies when it comes to approving whether we go to war or not. It's the American Congress and yes, the did authorize it. You can't just say whatever you want without it being true, it doesn't make it real. Either you are ignorant of the facts or you're choosing to distort them in hopes that others who don't know any better will believe what you're saying. Either way, you'd be better off just not speaking up about things you don't understand.
Sorry for getting this thread off topic.

Please. Don't even go there. I know only Congress can declare war, but George Bush issued military actions which is backed by Wars Power Act. Congress did give him approval to engage in military action not war, so in a way I should explain my "unauthorized" comment. Well after George Bush said there were WMDs, which was false, congress gave him authorization to use military force. Our constitution has so many loopholes in it anyways. The Homegrown Terrorism Prevention act basically can take anyones rights away just in the suspicion that they are a "terrorist" with no need to for a search warrant. Back to topic. If the press was really influencing George W. Bush to make his decisions and the press is made up of the people, then explain why his approval rating was so low and why everyone was against the war. This isn't a conservative-liberal issue. Typical little punk kid to use stereotypes with people then cry about how I don't know anything, You watch FOX news probably so please don't tell me I'm ignorant of the facts. I believe any authorization of war that isn't approved by congress first is fraudulent. Conservative and liberal are labels. I disagree with how things are run, so go ahead, call me a conspiracy theorist. I mean don't get me started on Obama. Our last decent president that was actually doing things for the well being of the people got a bullet in the head and neck. Was is one bullet? LMAO You are just biased because your favorite team is the Cubs.

Drayton McLane and Ed Wade planned on extending Cooper but because it isnt front page news, you assume that Drayton is influenced by the press like Bush which is completely false. Neither has been influenced by what people think. If they were, a rebuilding project everyone keeps saying the Stros should start would have begun years ago. If the government was really ran by the people, the war would be over and all of our troops would be back with our family. So in a sense, you saying I dont know anything and I automatically disagree with what people say is kind of contradictory because you are talking down on the Astros, when you dont know anything about the situation and because you are a Cubs fan and we owned you in the 90s.
