« Offseason In Review: New York Mets | Main | Marlins Acquire Ross Gload; Royals Release Peralta »
According to Robert MacLeod of The Globe and Mail, the Blue Jays released pitcher Matt Bush today. The Jays picked up Bush from the Padres this winter, and he quickly violated their zero tolerance policy with some kind of bad behavior.

With all this guy has been thru you'd think that he'd realize that there was a good chance this was his last chance and would fly right.
If he weren't a number 1 overall pick he'd have been drummed out of baseball long ago.

Wow, to think that the guy who got into a fight with high school students weeks not long before the Blue Jays took him got into trouble... huh.

First, he was a waste of a #1 pick. Now it just looks like he's a waste of space.

I agree...what a waste of a #1 pick. Unfortunately, until MLB uses some sort of rookie salary cap similar to what the NBA uses, teams will continue to just draft sub par talent simply because they can sign them. And top flight guys like Rick Porcello won't slide all the way down to the 26th pick. Who knows...maybe the new rule that you get another 1st round pick if you fail to sign your guy will allow for more teams to actually draft based on talent.

I laugh if he has a Josh Hamitlonish comeback. But than again not many people can have that kind of comeback Josh is a great guy but I do hope he comes back he had so much potential and is just throwing it all away, it kind of makes me mad.

Matt Bush wasn't drafted #1 because of money; he was drafted #1 because Moores was attracted to the fact that he was a hometown guy.
Which is funny since SD probably won't be drafting the hometown guy in this draft, as he will be happily chilling on the East Coast.

This is why it sucks to be a San Diego sports fan. Already we deal with one of the worst NFL draft picks of all time with Ryan Leaf and now the Padres have officially joined the club with Matt Bush. It's gonna be a loooooong season...

Ok can someone bring me up to speed on this guy? Ive heard nothing but ominous reports of "off field problems" and "conduct issues" but never anything concrete and detailed.
Id like to know why the Jays passed on him and I would like to know about his past issues.
All Ive heard about is problems with drinking but nothing specific.
Anyone?

This is what he did to get cut by the Pads:
"A witness, who requested his name not be used because of the ongoing police investigation, said Bush was drunk, threw a golf club into the dirt, picked up and threw a freshman lacrosse player and hit another one. Bush also yelled “I'm Matt (expletive) Bush,” and “(expletive) East County,” before driving over a curb in his Mercedes when leaving the campus, according to the witness."
Basically, he's an alcoholic dumb jock who was taken number 1 by the Padres but couldn't curb his off-field issues. He's got terrible behavior problems and in general he's just a hilarious joke of a human being.
