« Marlon Anderson May Be Released | Main | Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Opening Day Payrolls »
According to Tracy Ringolsby of Inside The Rockies, pitcher Juan Morillo was designated for assignment today. The Rockies needed to clear a spot for Matt Belisle.
Morillo, 25, is out of options. He throws in the mid to high 90s, but exhibits poor control. It might make sense for a non-contending team to take him on as a project.

Padres are looknig for some hard throwers he could probably hook on there for awhile he could also use the dimensions of petco to help him out rather than hard hiting coors

You guys have to remember that all the pitchers the Padres are acquiring are also out of options so to add anymore they have to start releasing some or putting them through waivers themselves. Their bullpen has only given up runs in only 1 inning this season, a pretty big surprise. Is this Morillo guy better than someone there now?

Sounds like this guy has potential. Detroit should pick him up.

David Aardsma type clone, only a little younger and has not had much experience at all in the majors yet, but both have the same pitches and stuff and both are extremely wild.
As young as Morillo is, he'll keep getting chances for a few more years and if maybe a good pitching coach like Dave Duncan, or John Farrel can work with him for awhile, maybe fix those weird mechanics of his and straighten him out and then he could be a decent set up guy at some point.

The Sox should pick this guy up and DA Mike MacDougal, he has a confidence problem. His pitching motion has too many moving parts for him to keep replicating it the way he should. So far he has been bad news.
Cooper has done a better job on reclaimation projects than any other pitching coaches arguabley over the last 5 years. He may be able to turn this guy around.
