I'd wonder the same thing about Tatis. Obviously they had anticipated having Murphy, Church, Tatis, and Reed split time in the two corner spots, but at this point it seems more so like Church/Murphy/Sheffield in those two spots with Reed as the defensive replacement.
Giving a guy $1.7M so he can get seven at bats in five games during the first 13 games of the season isn't exactly money well spent.

And Martin as DePodesta in Moneyball is well.. awesome.
Martin is one of the funnier people currently in existence, and I'm curious to see how he'll do in a more traditional role.
Even if the movie ends up sucking, it's going to be interesting to see how exactly they make a good film out of that story.

Sorry Tim, but Brad Pitt's best roll was in True Romance, no debate.

"Joel Sherman of the New York Post wonders why the Mets paid Fernando Tatis $1.7MM if they weren't committed to using him."
Because Omar is the same GM that last year expected 96 year olds Pedro, El Duque, and Alou to stay healthy for 162 games.

Finally, The Return of the Toad.

It's also reported that David Justice and Scott Hatteberg will be playing themselves. I wonder which other former A's will sign on. It sounds like Soderbergh's using some documentary-style techniques with the movie.
Anyone want to do some more casting?
Michael Imperiolli from The Sopranos as J.P. Ricciardi is mine.
Can't wait to see who else gets cast. can I suggest Jonah Hill as Jeremy Brown? ;)

JP definitely should be played by Knish from Rounders.

The Mets didn't anticipate Sheffield becoming available for the minimum when they signed Tatis.
"Because Omar is the same GM that last year expected 96 year olds Pedro, El Duque, and Alou to stay healthy for 162 games."
I highly doubt that he expected that. El Duque was never even in the Mets plans for 2008, and I'm pretty sure he didn't expect Alou to stay healthy all year.

Joe Morgan will refuse to see any movie directed by Billy Beane based on a book that Beane wrote.
/Morgan is still confused

It's a good thing the Pirates have Matt Weiters waiting to take over for Doumit. Oh Wait...
Posted by: The Sobesman | April 21, 2009 at 05:13 PM
"Most players undergoing extended rehabilitation are assigned to the Pirates' Florida facilities, but Doumit sought and received permission to remain in Pittsburgh.
"These are my boys, and this is my team," Doumit said. "If I can stay here and help Jason, help our pitchers, sit on the bench and learn from Joe Kerrigan, then something good might actually come of this."
my man.

Nice. But don't worry, you got Daniel Moskos out of the draft and since he was drafter before Wieters he must be better. Still you gotta love his 1.56 ERA in single A ball... wait no, that's his WHIP.

Glad to see Nady's injury isn't as serious as once thought, he was one of my favorite players when he played for the Pirates.

The construction of that '08 roster (in April) suggests otherwise.

Well I hope Doumit gets back soon. I like the pop in his bat. Moneyball LOL He should be using all the money he saved to give people refunds on that horrible game he is on the cover of. Sabermetrics is very interesting no denying that but if you are strictly relying on it, you aren't guaranteed to do better. I wish I could just get Daryl Morey to B*tch slap Drayton McLane one good time. The only way the Rockets lose right now is if the referees hold them down.

I do not see this "uncanny resemblance" Billy Beane and Brad Pitt have either. Still a great idea. More like Billy Bob Thorton. Atleast he isn't sporting the "emo" cut Ed Wade had opening day.

For Moneyball I like Gary Coleman as Joe Morgan and Jackie Earle Haley (aka Kelly Leak) as Kevin Youkilis. Haley has been making a big comeback as of late and he's got Youk's look. I like Artie Lange from Beer League as Nick Swisher.

Doumit just can't stay healthy. I really think the Pirates are going to have to move him to a new position to try to minimize the extra wear and tear behind the plate.
