How was the Vernon Wells signing bad?
Sure the guy has battled the odd injury but he has performed pretty well, he's is the club house leader as well as a gold glover almost every year.

Kevin Youkilis has proven what he can do and has done so on a consistent basis. Zimmerman hasn't proved anything and is getting overpaid for it, Not Carlos Silva overpaid, but overpaid still.

"How was the Vernon Wells signing bad?"
You do realize his contract averages $18M/year, right?

Youkilis in the Nats lineup and stadium = Zimmerman. Do like the position flexiblity but skill sets arent all that differnt but skill set of players around each of them at similiar points of their careers is the difference

There is huge difference between Youkilis and Zimmerman which makes sense why he is getting a similar deal. AGE. Youkilis is 30 years old. It took him 5 years to have his first full professional season. He had those years of development that Zimmerman did not have. Zimmerman was drafted in 2005 and played in his first major league game that same year. He is 24 years old and has been developing his skills against professionals.
Personally, I am high on Zimmerman I think he has his break out season this year and Washington's investment is going to payoff.

I agree with Tough. I am not sure it is this season for a Zimmerman break out, but I agree, this guy is going to be a stud. He already is very good with his glove, and he has obvious hitting tools. He is already a valuable hitter, he has so much more potential though. People just get spoiled by the David Wright's and Evan Longoria's of the world that breakout as soon as they hit the majors. Seems like the common thought is if you don't burst onto the scene as a superstar right from the get go, you are a disappointment. If this guy wasn't in the majors he would be a mega prospect, the fact that he has been in the league, like Tough said, for 4 years developing his skills at the highest level shouldn't stop people from realizing what a special player Zimmerman can be.
