According to Ken Davidoff of Newsday, the Rangers claimed reliever Darren O'Day off waivers from the Mets. O'Day's Rule 5 situation remains - the Rangers have to keep him in the Majors or offer him back to the Angels.
O'Day, 26, posted fine numbers at Triple A last year with a 3.27 ERA, 8.2 K/9, and 1.9 BB/9.
On the Mets front, Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News notes that pitcher Nelson Figueroa cleared waivers.

I love this move for the Rangers.
I've watched O'Day in the Angels farm system and in their bullpen, when he's on his sinker/two seamer it's groundball fever and can be an option for late inning relief.

I'm happy Nelson Figueroa cleared waivers. It was a shame how the Mets handled that situation. If they were to lose Figgy and O'Day just to bring Fossum up, it'd upset a lot of people.

O'Day is a submariner, which helps him against RHB. He also is able to go 2 innings rather regularly.

Yeah, mostly O'day and Figueroa, possibly their families. I can't think of anybody else who would get bent out of shape about losing a rule 5 submariner and a career journeyman in Nelson Figueroa, who, quite frankly, sucks.

And Fossum was pretty good against lefties last year. Whether it is Fossum or somebody else, I would prefer another left handed arm in the pen over O'day or Figueroa, just to take some pressure off Feliciano, who seemingly pitches every day. People get so quickly attached to guys who aren't even good, make these big fusses when they end up leaving. Jeff Keppinger, Ruben Gotay, Argenis Reyes, Angel Pagan, it is quite strange.

The Mets must feel a bit stupid for trading Schoeneweis.
