According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Brewers signed first baseman/outfielder Frank Catalanotto to a minor league deal today. The Cat will begin in extended spring training and then go to the minors, with an eye on a big league bench role.
The Rangers released Catalanotto on April 1st, so they'll pay most of the $6MM owed to him. He should be useful, having hit .274/.342/.399 last year in 278 plate appearances.

Its about damn time but there's plenty of teams that could use him more than the Brew Crew. Nice snag for them though, good job.

He's a career 292 (I think) hitter, why the hell didn't anyone want him?

No clue... it baffled me that The Yankees didnt grab him first, Cashman could have signed him with the money between his couch cushions

I guess its time for Brad Nelson to start looking over his shoulder

Matt Cerrone over at Metsblog.com wanted the Mets to sign him when he became available. Gotta agree.

The only team with a case not to sign him was the Yankees at the beginning of the year, when they had Swisher benched.
As of May 1, I can't see a single team that couldn't use one of the best pinch hitters of all time, and a .290 hitter, to boot.

Wonder when we are going to see Gamel up with the club.

I love it when this guy does his John Madden impersonation.

Good move. Catalanotto's offensive is pretty solid & I would imagine he'll be ready to contribute in the bigs pretty soon.
