« Astros Sign Brendan Donnelly | Main | The Asking Price For Doc Halladay »
According to an MLB.com press release, the Indians have designated infielder Tony Graffanino for assignment.
The move essentially cleared roster space for highly touted outfield prospect Matt LaPorta, who was acquried from the Brewers in last year's CC Sabathia trade. Graffanino, 37 in June, was 3-for-23 in seven games with the Indians this season. He could get a shot elsewhere as a utility infielder.

Wow. LaPorta, Valbuena, Barfield all called up today.
Must be more to Hafner's shoulder than they're letting on (Duh), because to call up LaPorta he has to have consistent AB's. Makes little sense to call him up now unless he's up for the long haul. We'll see what he can do, he's been on fire at Columbus.
Ben Francisco, beware.

Phils should add Graff to their bench as their right hand bat. That way they can dump the soft swinging Cairo.

Always liked Graf. he got robbed his only chance to get a little money a few years back when Boston offered him arbitration when he became a FA and killed all offers for him from other teams since he was a type B, he ended up accepting and Boston dumping him, but he is a scrappy type player that still may be able to help somebody at 2b,ss,3b in the utility role.

ha, this doesn't have as much to do with Hafner's shoulder as people seem to think.
Tribe had 9 relief pitches Wednesday and had 8 still yesterday. They are finally back to a normal 7 man pen and 4 man bench (thank GOD).
Francisco is a 4th outfielder and nothing more. Hope he sticks around in that role.

I don't know why being a type B scared teams off. The team that signs him doesn't lose anything, the team that lost him gains a compensation pick, and that's it.

Itll be nice to see what Laporta can provide at the major league level. He could EASILY win a full time spot in the Cleveland outfield with even moderately god play since there's a wide open spot available.
