| What To Do With The Braves Outfield? »

Links for Friday evening...
- As Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times explains, Adrian Beltre's trade value is diminishing because teams are no longer confident that he'll be a Type A free agent. This means the team that trades for Beltre can't expect two compensation picks for losing the third baseman to free agency.
- MLB.com's Mark Bowman argues that the Braves need to make an immediate change to their outfield and says there's an "indication that we'll begin to see it in the near future." He says the Braves must consider dealing the powerless Jeff Francoeur, or at least finding a more productive outfielder.
- According to Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post Glendon Rusch is staying at home instead of reporting to Triple A Colorado Springs. The Rockies are expected to put him on the restricted list.
- Via Twitter, Marc Lancaster of the Tampa Tribune reports that Troy Percival, who was just placed on the DL, has gone home to ponder a future "which could be in doubt." Joe Maddon has said he "wouldn't be surprised" to see Percival hang it up, according to Marc Lancaster.
- Another piece of Rays news from the same Lancaster report - With Scott Kazmir headed to the DL, it's likely that David Price will make his long-awaited season debut in Kazmir's place on Monday.
- As MLB.com's Brian Hoch reports, Chien-Ming Wang is returning to the Yankees as a long reliever because of the team's depleted bullpen.
The Bowman thing is sort of like a "This Just In: The Braves Outfield Sucks!" story. Duh, we all knew that. Thought, if the Braves were willing to give up Jair Jurrjens and a few more MLB ready pitchers, would the White Sox consider moving Carlos Quentin? They need starting pitching like they need Oxygen.

Why would the Braves move a pitcher who is extremely cheap and under team control, is under 25, and has been a front of the rotation guy since coming up to the majors? Yeah we need hitting but there are better solutions

I'm with you JJ is the best #2 in the game right now and is potentially an ace. I'd like to see us move Morton, Diaz, Brandon Jones, and Locke/Rohrbrough for Carlos Lee if Houston will eat some of the salary. I'm still holding on to some faith that francour can find the .260 29hr guy from '06 or the .303 19hr guy from '07 but his clock is ticking fast.

Houston ain't gonna eat anyone's salary for that package you just mentioned. Much less Carlos Lee's who makes a TON of money and is a super-star caliber player.

Pretty sure Francoeur is STILL leading the team in RBIs.
Trading him is akin to patching an amputation with a bandaid. The real problem is in left field.

Any competent RF who had as many RBI opportunities as Francoeur would have a ton more RBI. .252/.277/.361 just ain't getting it done. And he sucks.

Francoeur is probably one of the worst players in baseball, and his lack of ability to recognize pitches, make adjustments and force long at bats simply destroys his ability to consistently produce on offense.
Meanwhile, the issues on offense have appeared to affect his focus on defense, and bulking up before 2008 appears to have taken away some of his range in right as well, as his UZR's from 2005-2007 were 13.2, 8.3 and 17.1, respectively, making him one of the best defensive right fielders in baseball. But in 2008 his UZR/150 was -4.7 and this season he has a -2.9 UZR/150.
