Your Saturday evening links, with more to come...
- ESPN's Keith Law has made some significant changes to his Top 100 MLB Draft Rankings. It's subscriber-only, but a great read for those looking to catch draft fever.
- Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times asks (and attempts to answer) a popular question: "What is going on with Raul Ibanez in Philadelphia?"
- Benjamin Kabak of River Ave. Blues takes another look at Andy Pettitte's incentive-laden deal with the Yankees.
- Cubs manager Lou Piniella is high on Mike Fontenot at third base. "Fontenot is honestly our best option there," Piniella told the Chicago Sun-Times. "When we get Aaron Miles back [from the disabled list] it will help the situation too. But we feel very comfortable with Fontenot at third, and we can use [Bobby] Scales and [Andres] Blanco at second."
The Cajun Connection is getting the job done for the Cubs!!

Yeah they were the double play combo at LSU together right? That is neat, to man the up the middle infield tandem in college and then eventually do it again together as pro's.

Just so people know, I posted the top 100.

Fontenot at third seems obvious for the Cubs. Too bad Fox can't play defense. As high as his stock is right now it's a wonder they don't look to deal him to an AL club who needs hitting. Wouldn't he be a perfect fit for the Red Sox right now? Since Fox doesn't fit any particular position for the Cubs why shouldn't they look to capitalize on they way he's hitting? Maybe they could get an impact lefty for the pen, among other things.

I totally agree the Cubs should trade Fox now while his stock is high. I think the Cubs are better off putting Scales at second. Aaron Miles sucks!

OK, first...Drew, that's cold man... Teasing us with subscriber only stuff? Just cold.
But Darion...you rock. Thank you. Very friggin' cool of you to post that.

Thanks for the list Darion, for those that do not have Insider.
As for Lou, what else can we expect him to say? I'm sure he'd rather play Fontenot at 2nd and have a better third baseman, but in a way, I'm glad Freel & Miles are on the DL, neither were hitting anyway.

As an O's fan, I'm hoping my Birds go with one of the HS arms. Turner's tops on my list, but Matzek wouldn't suck either. Hell, I like Miller too. Not as crazy about Wheeler. Strasburg may be No. 1 with a bullet, but I'm fairly convinced that this year's class of prep pitchers will turn out to be VERY good. In fact, as bad as the bats may be, the pitching this year is as good as I can remember- both HS and college. Very deep with an unusual abundance of power arms.

Matzek reportedly up to 98 this week.

"#38 Mike Minor LHP Vanderbilt Watch"
Best thing I've seen all week. BA has him at #35 and now this. I'm going to be so pissed if the Padres pick this loser.
This is the slowest day I've ever seen on MLBTR.

I honestly don't feel that Pettite will false himself to pitch if his back isn't ready. He played thru a bad shoulder last year and sucked in the 2nd half and was ZERO help to his team. I'd like to think that winning the AL East and playing for another ring will hold more weight to a vet near the end of his career. With Wang waiting in the wings we have someone to turn to and it's not like Girardi would send Pets to the pen if all he misses is 1 or 2 starts.
As for my other team this sspring/summer...Cavs lost....that sucks. Ten years here in Cleveland and I told myself I wouldn't allow myself to be sucked into pushing for a Cleveland team..haha. Well there's always next year right? Hopefully, the Yanks will help me get over the pain and inject some triumphant joy into my sports life this Summer and thru October. Hopefully, the Yanks will get their 27th and the Cavs FO will figure out how to get their 1st. And in the meantime maybe the Knicks will get a better draft pick or not suck so much. Figures the Knicks would suck enough to make the lottery but not enough to get a top 3 pick. UGGG!!!!

YFS78... cmon man lets share the parade this year... root for us to get a championship! then you guys can have the next 5 for all i care...
And its tough rooting against cleveland, but i want lebron on the knicks, and this is a step towards that.... well maybe...

Hope that MaxStassi, or Donovan Tate falls to the 28th slot due to signability issues for some of the poor mouthing teams and Boston can grab one of them with it's pick.
Thanks Darion for posting that list of the top 100, have been trying to keep up with as many as possible of the better prospects this year in anticipation of the upcoming draft.
