« Looking Back At May 2008 | Main | No Contract Talks For Jason Bay »
According to Jamey Newberg of TheNewbergReport.com, the Rangers have released Derrick Turnbow after the pitcher triggered a clause in his contract that allowed him to demand a release. Turnbow and the Rangers agreed that he would be able to ask for his release if he wasn't on the team by May 1st. Turnbow walked nine and allowed 11 hits in 6.1 innings in AAA, striking out one batter.

The guy couldn't even make the Rangers bullpen that should tell you how much this guy sucks.

The guy was turning into quite the closer in Milwaukee a while back, what happened to him? I would love to see the Padres pick him up, we could get him cheap and he would likely make it into our bullpen, it is horrible right now. I think he has pontential to turn into a decent setup guy for Heath Bell, Petco Park would be helpful.

How the mighty have fallen. I always liked Turnbow. He was at one time a dominant closer...as good as any in the game for about one full season or so. Then, he fell apart. Completely lost the ability to find the strikezone consistently. The guy throws hard, though, and if someone could just get his confidence back...who knows. Not a good sign to be released by the Texas Rangers, of all teams, though.

Unless Petco Park magically helps players find the plate, it wouldn't help at all.

For Sure! Hewould be a perfect fit for the Pads! The bullpen is already duct taped together. I would not be surprised at all if he was in a Padres uni by Sunday..

Pads fans...careful what you wish for. This guy needs to figure out how to throw a strike before he's in any major league team's uni. Loads of potential...but if he can't throw strikes it doesn't matter. It's a shame, really. A waste of a 98 MPH arm.

If he was a starter I'd see another Dave Duncan reclamation project.

He's only had one good season (2005) where his BB/9 rate was below 6. He is just another example of anyone can be a closer.

Gotta remember that one team's trash is the Padres treasure. A struggling minor league pitcher on another team is a top reliever on the Padres. Also remember that Padres are famous for pulling pitching talent out of nowhere (linebrink, meredith, bell, etc). If they sign Turnbow it means they believe he still has something left to give a ML team, if he becomes a Padre don't write him off just yet.

The angels bullpen blew another one tonight... he'd make a great addition there!!

Another waste of a good arm. When this guy is on he is REALLY tough to hit. I really hope that someone takes a chance on him and helps him to figure his control out.
Maybe if a pitching coach can help him to re-work his delivery and make it not so max effort and more identical, perhaps that could help.

The Pirates were interested in signing him before the Rangers did. Our Pen in the Burgh is pretty bad right now. It could be woth a shot.

I liked him when he was in milwaukee, it sucks that he lost his confidence.. I go to all the home games.. When he was on he was a rockstar. I am sure if he works with the right person and allows that person into his head to reprogram, he can be back.
But the window wont be open forever. I wish him luck wherever he goes.
