According to the Miami Herald via the Sports Network, the Angels have come to terms with first-round choice Randal Grichuk.

I find the Grichuk pick to be a bit puzzling.
Grichuk was projected as more of a 2nd/3rd round pick than a first round guy, so it appears to be an overdraft.
When you consider that they used their next pick on another outfielder, Mike Trout, and arguably their best prospect, Peter Bourjos, also plays the outfield, I find it curious that they would use another pick on Grichuk, another outfielder.
That organization could use some pitching, so I find it odd that they passed on Rex Brothers, specifically, but passing on Scheppers, Paxton, Skaggs, Black and Heckathorn was questionable to me.
Then again, I'm not a scout and I have practically zero knowledge of LA's drafting process.

it's pretty simple, actually.
they needed power and needed it badly. they love drafting high school guys so they can mold them into their style of play. both Trout and Grichuk posses power, and they're really the only outfielders in the Angels system that do. picking Grichuck over Trout gives them monetary leverage, too.
and they ended up getting Skaggs in the supp round, so that didn't really matter.
