Mets DFA Emil Brown

So says Mike Nichols at MetsBlog, the Mets designated Emil Brown for assignment today to make room for the recently activated Ryan Church.

Brown was just acquired from the Padres on May 29th for a player to be named later. The 34-year-old journeyman outfielder only saw two plate appearances in his cup of coffee for the Mets, but he had previously put up a line of .260/.345/.432 in 41 Triple-A games for the Pads. He might latch on to another team looking for minor league depth.

They should make him the player to be named later.

haha, yeah

Emil brown for PTBNL

thos just in, PTNBL in emil brown trade is Emil Brown

i like how omar can watch the mets right now and do absolutley nothing! I just don't get how he didn't trade for a slugger right now

Omar already wasted all of his prospects he had to trade. He can't do anything but watch now.

The Phillies need a RH bench bat

Adam H. you couldn't be more wrong. The Mets still have a bunch of prospects they could use in a trade. Im sure theres quite a few teams that would love to get their hands on Brad Holt and Jenrry Mejia.. although, if I was Omar, I would hang onto those guys.

Sure, the Mets have a few prospects that could be traded, but the point is that if they trade any more they might as well not even have a minor league system. Omar is just horrible at managing his assets. He trades for a redundant reliever in Putz and gives up a bunch of players. Then Delgado goes down and the Mets have no choice but to put guys like Fernando Tatis and Jeremy Reed at 1st base. Meanwhile Mike Carp has been fantastic for the Mariners in AAA. Ezequil Carrera is tearing up AA. What could have prevented this trade were previous ones, such as trading Mstt Lindstrom, Heath Bell, and Royce Ring for a bunch of crap. Now 150 million dollars and a bunch of trades later, the Mets have holes all over and could very well miss the playoffs for the 3rd year in a row.

Omar is waiting for holiday to fall in his lap like johan did.. He has killed this team for last two years...... he has done nothing as gm and vp... but bring in old players that keep getting hurt....

GMs can't think like fans and make knee-jerk moves. Omar wants to get a big bat ASAP but he also can't overpay for one. Right now, the Mets have no leverage in a potential deal. Teams may also be unsure if they're going to be buyers or sellers at the deadline.

Johan did not fall into his lap.

I'd go as far as conceding that he didn't do a great deal in the 2007 offseason but you can never really be sure of bullpens. The best he could do was get an ace which he did. This offseason he purged the pen and it has been a strength of the team.

(adding to my post above)

People will complain he didn't get a bat for the lineup, they were tied with the Phillies for 2nd most runs scored in the majors. Even now they are near the top in on-base percentage. At some point, their run totals will catch up. The only old player they had on the opening day roster was Delgado and his injury really came out of no where. The Sheffield pickup has been very good for them and they would be in a much bigger hole without him.

they should still go after a branyan right now, and at the all star break for holliday

I don't think Branyan is the answer for anything right now and certainly not one that is a DH and can only pinch hit LH when Delgado comes back. Plus Minaya isn't trading with the Mariners anytime soon it seems.

Holliday would probably involve trading Fernando Martinez away, since the A's are pretty stacked with infield prospects (Marte, Flores, Havens on the Mets side).
The A's dont want Neise, Beane probably doesn't really value Parnell enough unless he can convert back to starter. Who can the Mets trade the A's for anything without Minaya actually pulling the trigger?

The only positions the Mets should trade for are Starting Pitchers (#2 RHP) and a Catcher that can play 1st base.

I've not read a word of this thread. I have one thing to say:

Jenrry Mejia, 19 years old, throws 97 MPH, just debuted in Double-A by throwing seven shutout innings in his first start. Awesome. That's for all you fools who said the Mets have no farm.

the mets have do have young prospects.... they all in single and double....

Oh yeah, they're all in Single and Double-A. That is correct. The majority of the Mets legit prospects are in two of the three levels currently playing. Thanks for the clarification. Jerk.

I said this in a previous thread and I'll say it again.

Jose Reyes thus far this year:

wOBA: .344
WAR: 0.8
G: 36

Look, the Mets would obviously better WITH Jose Reyes than without him, but the fact is, he hadn't done anything particularly special to contribute in the time he'd played anyway. He'd been slightly above average. Of course he'd pick it up as the sample size increased, but the fact remains, he contributed only slightly above average production through about 2/3 of the Mets current schedule. The team is still 29-25. They probably would have been considerably better with Reyes producing at expected levels. But that hasn't been the case, and they are where they are, and the dropoff from what Jose HAS DONE to what Cora SHOULD DO is small. The bigger issue is what Delgado HAS DONE and what Murphy and Tatis HAVE NOT DONE.

The Mets have an offensive hole right now. Its not a gaping one, one upgrade could significantly fix it. And their pitching staff has been quite solid, easily second best in the division behind the Braves at WORST. The Braves have upgraded their offense, but if there's any chance the Mets could still get healthy, they could be the best team in the division by quite a bit for a couple months at the end of the season. For now, they just need to keep their heads above water and basically do what they've done for the first two months. And for that, the difference will be 1B production, not SS production, since that's been minimal as is anyway. If they can get above average SS production, that's a huge plus vs. the rest of the league/division.

Agreed Meddler, it seems strange that people really started freaking out with Reyes' setback, but mostly because it has coincided with the worst offensive stretch the team has gone through all year. Wright is slumping, Sheff is slumping, Tatis and Murphy aren't hitting, no production from the catcher, etc. Though this is pretty much the same team they have run out there for the last month, and they were doing fine. They certainly can't score right now, but they are not nearly as bad as they have played this week.

Seems like the entire NL East isn't doing too hot right now. Only the Marlins & Phillies can string together even DECENT offensive outings so far. This will certainly correct itself, it's just a question of how long Mets & Braves fans have to wait. I'm sure most would agree that Frank Wren is certainly still looking around for another small deal he can swing to help put the offense over the top, and I'm sure Omar Minaya would love to as well. It'll be interesting to see where things go from here.

Why does this make him a jerk? A little sensitive, aren't we?

omar needs to realize that the club right now with jose wouldve been able to play small ball and steal bases, but they can't w/o jose so they need a power bat or 2

I'm not sure, I figured slappy was being sarcastic, saying yeah well the Mets have prospects, too bad they are all single and double A prospects. Meddler was just stating that year, its a shame that all the Mets prospects are at two of the 3 levels currently playing minor league baseball. I tend to give Meddler the benefit of the doubt, he is usually calm and rational. Jerk. Just kidding ;-) (about the jerk part).

Yeah I kinda just threw it up there for effect, lol.
