Im pretty sure that Jake Peavy would be a perfect fit for most teams

The Arrogance of Red Sox Nation amuses me. They seem to think any player is available to them because they have money.
Posted by: OmegaMan | June 01, 2009 at 03:19 PM
knowing the pads...they would try get back a lot but with a farm system like the red sox who wouldn't.

The poll wasn't "Who do you thinks available?"
It was "Which player would you like to see in your uniform?"
And I'm pretty sure every legion of fans would be in line with the thinking of Red Sox Nation in wanting Adrian or Victor on their team.

Omega perhaps if you actually clicked the link to see what it says instead of generalizing you would have seen it asks which player would YOU LIKE to see in a Red Sox uniform...
Obviously the two best players are the ones that any general fan of a team is going to select..

I need not an article to prove arrogance.
"Chad Finn of the Boston Globe lists a number of players for the Red Sox to consider and asks fans which one would be best for the team." Why have the poll if somebody didn't think its possible? Hey let's have a poll never as to whether you would prefer to have the moon made out of cheese or hot dogs. Then we can poll every other baseball fan and ask who they are more tired of, the red sox or yankees.
Posted by: OmegaMan | June 01, 2009 at 03:37 PM
I think we should have a poll of who is tired of hearing your mindless ranting, id like to take part in that poll

The Ire of Red Sox Nation upon me. Kinda like poison ivy.
Posted by: OmegaMan | June 01, 2009 at 03:46 PM
Yes, those stupid RedSox fans and their stupid idea of wanting good players. Friggin idiots.
Posted by: nrmax88 | June 01, 2009 at 03:47 PM
why are you posting comments on a red sox related article, to simply bash it? you havent mentioned anything about any other parts of the articles and the other teams.

The Indians should be in sell mode with Mark DeRosa regardless of how they're playing. Trading him for a back-end starter would be more beneficial to this team.
Posted by: Kevin | June 01, 2009 at 04:37 PM
Yeah the Grady injury has absolutely NOTHING to do with DeRosa getting traded ever. He's been off all year and has been hitting in the 2-hole lately.
Him being on the DL isn't gonna put us in sell mode.
Pavano is interesting......Tribe was 12 games out in July in 2005 and didn't trade Milwood even though he was only on a 1-year deal (he led the league in ERA that year). Tribe may decide to hold on to Pavano and see if they can't get him to re-sign with Carmona's struggled and Lee's free agency in 2 years.....

Money doesn't talk in business (any business)...
it screams!!!!

Omega - you're late for band practice.
Adrian and Victor can be had... I don't think Towers will hang up the phone if Theo calls with a package starting w/ Buchholz and Anderson.
Posted by: carini26 | June 01, 2009 at 04:54 PM
I agree Hermie13, if Pavano keeps it up I see no reason why they don't try to bring him back. Also, seeing as how we are pitching starved trading a starter would be pretty stupid, winning or not. If you trade him then you just end up rushing someone to the bigs.
Posted by: grimace455 | June 01, 2009 at 05:07 PM
I agree carini26. when a GM says a player is "untouchable", it just means he has a high asking price - but usually it's unreasonably high, and ultimately not worth it.

Omega: Quote from the article.
"Gonzalez, whom the Sox have coveted since he was buried behind Mark Teixeira with Texas, might be one player for whom Theo Epstein would overpay. And you know he would have to."
The author fully understand that Adrian isnt going to be given to the Red Sox. It isnt highly likely that the Padres move him.
Carini26: I doubt the Padres want Anderson, given that Blanks is a 1B. The Padres want pitching, specifically top of the rotation pitching. And a trend I noticed with the deals involving Peavy, all the packages had the Padres wanting a left-hander in it.
Posted by: AirmanSD | June 01, 2009 at 05:49 PM
That article in the Globe also made a point of the excessive cost that Adrian Gonzalez would cost. I also voted and picked Adam Dunn for the cost reason, while Gonzalez is maybe one of the top 5 players in the game and a 1B the Sox definitely covet, his cost would be very high, just like the article said if people actually read it before voting, whereas Dunn could probably be had much cheaper, or maybe MDC and a B level prospect and provide the bat at DH that the Sox dearly need and from the left side.

Nats: Good morning Mr.Boras, nice day isnt it?
Boras: Enough chit chat, I want a gagillion bagillion dollars over 25 years and a golden statue of him out front of the stadium.
Strasburg: "woah, hang on"
Boras: "pipe down kid, let me do my thing"
Nats: "those arent even real numbers"
Boras: "they are now, this kid is THAT DAMN GOOD, and while youre at it, he gets a key to the city, a 3 playmate rub down before and after games and lastly, 3 pink jelly beans served on a 19th century english serving dish
Nats: ??????

carini26,
Bucholtz and Lars Anderson wouldn't get the Sox Victor Martinez. If that's all they are gonna offer for Gonzalez then yes, Towers would hang up. Gonzalez doesn't have a full no-trade clause like Peavy or make as much.
Gonzalez is worth a Tex-like deal and Bucholtz and Anderson (as good as both are) isn't good enough.
Tribe would even ask for Daniel Bard to be included.
Victor has as much time as Tex had and plays more positions (even if catcher only half the time). Not quite as good or young but off to a great start. Tribe is only 8 out with 8 guys on the DL. There's no point to trade a non-free agent when they can compete next year rather easily.

“Steve Rosenbloom of the Chicago Tribune writes that Jim Hendry and the Cubs "picked the wrong guy" when they signed Milton Bradley instead of Bobby Abreu or Adam Dunn last winter.”
Well, duh! Lunatic off an obviously unrepeatable career year, posted as (nearly) an everyday DH in a notorious hitters dream of a park during his first real contract season – warning signs were absolutely everywhere. And honestly, the biggest of all might have been those 6 teams in 7 years. That alone should have been enough to limit the deal to a one year pact with maybe an option if they did somehow insist on signing him specifically. Instead, we promised a 3 year deal if he reached a certain amount of games played in (but not started) – a goal of a mere 46% of the teams actual contests with even as little as an inning played.
There was never any upside to the contract. At absolute best we would be paying market value for his production. But everything surrounding him depended on a “what if”, and at least 4 of those “what ifs” would have had to come true to get that absolute best situation we are paying for. Contract was a joke from the very start.
