That may be a good place for both Willy Mo Pena and Andy Phillips to play, being Japan, especially Pena. Andres Gallaraga went over there as a journeyman and came back as a real masher, just maybe Pena could straighten himself out and come back with his full potential.
I highly doubt Huff, DeRosa and Nick Johnson type hitter prices are going to be falling the closer we get to the 7/31 deadline as Davidoff mentioned, more like getting higher and higher with divisions like the AL West, NL East and NL Central all bunched up and several of those teams desperately needing more than 1 strong bat.

"Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says Neal Huntington is trying to build a young, athletic, defensive-minded outfield around Andrew McCutchen in Pittsburgh."
Rather than an aging, slow, and offensive-minded outfield?
McCutchen and Morgan are a good start though, if they're going after defense.

When did The Big Cat play in Japan?

Gallaraga didn't. I suspect the commenter is thinking of Cecil Fielder.

You are correct, my mistake gents. I meant Fielder. Hanshin Tigers, just looked it up.
Apologies.

"Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times says a Juan Pierre for Jarrod Washburn swap wouldn't work for the Mariners because of Pierre's contract."
Washburn = 09:$10.35M and no-trade protection.
Pierre = # 09:$10M, 10:$10M, 11:$8.5M and contract includes limited no-trade protection.
The only difference I see is that Washburn is a rental and Pierre is signed for 2 more years. Maybe the M's don't want that, but otherwise it looks like a good tradeoff.

Pierre is terrible, especially for that amount of money. There's no way he keeps this up for a whole season, nevermind the two after this.

Would you want Juan Pierre for 2/18.5? Keep in mind that Adam Dunn costed 2/20.
Because that's exactly why the Mariners wouldn't make that deal.

Does Andrew McCutchen have brothers who play?

I believe I called this rumor a few days ago...

Why? Pierre was a elite lead off hitter for about 5 years, and hes not old.. Is he terrible because he makes a shitload of money?
