I don't care what anyone says the Derosa deal was great for the Cardinals! We have plenty of right hand young relievers. Franklin looks great, Motte is about the same situation as Perez except has only been pitching 2 years so obviously more room for improvement and Kinney is looking like he's getting back to old form! Hawksworth is looking solid and if our starters get healthy Thompsom can go back to the pen and do a fine job also!

I didn't read enough of the last thread mentioning Zambrano to get a true gauge of the Cubs fans, but were I Omar Minaya, I would instantly eat all of Zambranos contract to nab him. I could care less if he blows up every once in a while. 1.29 career whip 7.6 K/9 and 213 IP per season? Yes please

jimmywallaby ..... There have been a few times recently that links are used in multiple posts. But these guys are doing a pretty good job in Tim's absence.
I know everyone sees the DeRosa deal as great for the Cards but what about Cleveland? They did pretty well here too getting Perez. He's cost controlled, young, high upside, and bullpen arms are valuable. Plus, they're not winning this year. They might as well build for the near future.

I agree it's good for the Indians but I read on here the other day alot of people saying the cardinals were so dumb for giving up Perez....I think it was a good trade for both teams! The Cards definatly didn't get as screwed as whoever ends up with Holliday will

Yeah, I like how Rogers' solution is to try to dump arguably our best starter.
He's missing bats like he used to again, and while he's not inducing as many groundballs as you would like, Zambrano has been our most consistent starter over the years and the main cog in our rotation.
Even if he's no longer the ace level pitcher that he was from 2003-2006, he's still one of the better starters in the game.

thank you hendry. dero is now a cardinal. i am a huge cub fan. going to a cubs-cards game in the near future. still going to cheer for dero at wrigley. i dont blame him for being a cardinal and blame hendry twice. once, during the offseason for letting him go for 3 nothings. second, for not outbidding the cards for him just now. again, thank you hendry.

Nothing makes me madder about the DeRosa deal than the fact that the Indians landed more for a half year of DeRosa than they gave up to get him from Chicago in the first place.
If we had traded DeRosa for Perez and a PTBNL during the offseason, then taking in that deal would've been a lot easier.
Now it seems like moving DeRosa has done nothing but hurt the Cubs and help their rivals.

"Nothing makes me madder about the DeRosa deal than the fact that the Indians landed more for a half year of DeRosa than they gave up to get him from Chicago in the first place."
Not to mention who they signed to take his place huh?
Used to hate it when Boston made Jeff Bagwell for Larry Anderson and Freddy Sanchez for Jeff Suppan mid summer moves also to get rentals like DeRosa that the red Birds just did, so maybe they paid a premium price and it'll take a year or two before it really shows up and the Indians really did get the better part of the deal.
Cubs can still make an attempt at Teahan Scribbletone. Just try and fine some kind of young pitching KC could use and then teahan will be around long after DeRosa is gone from St.Louis as a FA.

Scribble -- Just curious are you both a Chisox and a Cubs fan? Or do you just follow the Chisox closely, because you seem to know a ton about them along with the cubbies

Good to be back; lost my password...
I can actually answer that for you: He lives in Chicago, but has access to both teams, like I do but, with the Mets/Yankees. As do I, melonis, and Suzys, we all watch and notice every team in the league, and their prospects on a regular basis. I believe he is Cubs only, though.
Kearns, as awful as he has been, deserves a shot somewhere else. As he is now, he is a product of national waste.
Gee, the DeRosa for th Cubbies didn't look good at all for the Cubbies, and now it hurts even more with a trade to the Cards. A guy I know in Chicago is annoyed; I can't blame him. However, I think the actual trade itself is a nice win-win, a rare example of such.
Putting Big Z on waivers is one of the dumbest ideas I have heard. I respect (not always agree) with what these writers say, but we having writers getting paid to write this junk? Seriously, I know I could do better. Sure, as scribble said, he hasn't been the same lately, but you need a top of the rotation guy like that. Lilly has no business being an ace.
"Even if he's no longer the ace level pitcher that he was from 2003-2006, he's still one of the better starters in the game." My thoughts exactly.
Best of luck to your teams today! I'll be on here a lot now, with my take, sabermetrics, and all... see you all real soon.
