Looking back on it, Webb deffiently should have accepted the DBacks extension offer last year like Haren wisely did instead of trying to get every last nickel like a greedy jerk.

Will Blanks play Left?
Posted by: PWHjort | June 19, 2009 at 11:08 AM
metfan57,
They had an agreement but the Diamondbacks pulled the offer off the table because of health concerns. If anything the Diamondbacks are trying to get every last nickle. They're the ones who pulled the offer.

It's okay if Webby misses the whole year. As long as he gets healthy, I personally don't care how long he's gone. It's not like we're going anywhere this year.

PWHjort,
He's not going to see much time at 1B so I think he will have to play LF.

DH in interleague games too, I assume. 6 of their next 9 are in AL parks. After that I imagine he'll play some left and spell Gonzalez at 1B every now and then and handle pinch-hitting duties when he doesn't start. Plenty of places to get him in the line-up. Though I'd be interested to see how well he does in LF.

With the Rockies hot steak and Stewart's presence, will they still try to trade Atkins. Could they possibly get any value from him.

Glad to see a tag for Michael Turner!

Im stoked to see how Blanks does. If he can thrive at the MLB level, theyll move Gonzalez before the deadline I think. If not then theyll wait for Blanks to develop next year and then make the move then instead.

Blanks should play every day in SD at whatever position they can put him in. Giles should be released or benched and fill his spot with Hairston when he returns and have a much improved lineup of:
1. Gwynn Jr CF/RF
2. Eckstein 2B
3. A Gonzalez 1B
4. Blanks LF
5. Hairston CF/RF
6. Kouzmanoff 3B
7. Hundley C
8. Rodriguez SS
That lineup could at least be competitive.

bbxxj: Thats well and good, but Headley needs to play. They have got to stop this jerking around of the prospects. Either give Headley the everyday LF job or move him back to where he is comfortable at 3b and move Kouz.
But while they are going to playing at AL parks in the coming days, I think Blanks sees most of the time at DH for now, and once thats over he will head back to AAA. It means Floyd will be gone, I think they just release him.

@AirmanSD:
Thats very true about Headley. He does need to play but so may Blanks. If Blank comes out and hits well like he is able to do, then SD would have two middle of the order bats and not just one. At this point it would make more sense to trade Kouz and let Headley play 3B and Blanks LF. I don't assume to know it all though as I don't really watch the Pads on a regular basis and am only looking at the stats/roster.

The Padres are not going to release Giles until after his day in court later in July, they might be able to claim conducted detrimental to the team, and avoid paying his salary. As for Headley and Blanks, I think Kouz would be moved if a team was willing to give up a mid-tier pitching prospect for him. Blanks in LF is alright for now, but he really isnt much out there, but he can hold his own.

Um, no. The union would file a grievance on that so fast it would make your head spin. Especially when you consider Giles' veteran status.
Nice idea, but won't happen.

AirmanSD,
Few problems with that 1. This is a Civil trial, Giles already had his day in Court in 2006 and took a plea bargain 2. The Padres admitted to knowing about this before they picked up Giles option this winter so its kind of hard to claim that he was a detriment to the team when they knew full well about his off the field issues.

With Brown, Taylor, Drabek and Carrasco off-limits, I doubt the Phillies can scrape together enough garbage to get a middle reliever, let alone a starter, for their playoff push.

i guess you cant get anything for Marson, Donald, worley, stutes collier gose?

ya nice delicious sandwiches. He's built like Michael Turner of the Falcons, maybe bigger!
When you see Taylor in person he really reminds you of Howard of his rookie of the year and MVP seasons but with less power but a better arm/glove.
I wouldn't want to give him up either although his diabetes does scare me a bit honestly.
I remember seeing him in Lakewood rake and then move up to Clearwater and struggle for a little bit and then rake again and he started this year in Reading slowly again and now has very good stats. Part of his problem is that he really has no one around him offensively. I'd love to see him move up to Lehigh Valley this year but as always they'll be ridiculously patient with him. One can only hope he does get here before Howard's gone or diminished. I've been imagining those twin towers too but this one doesn't strike out and has a cannon for an arm.
