Prospect Updates: Strasburg, Harper, Sanchez

Updates on some of baseball's best prospects;

The next thing the DBacks should do is bring in Jim Skaalen to "work with" Mark Reynolds. And give Eric Byrnes full time PT in LF.

Should help the team lose more games. ;-)

Its like the Dbacks want to lose. But I say that's good if it gives us Harper.

But I don't understand Tony Clark still on the team. No speed (never had any to begin with), no bat speed, bad defense. Dude can't even catch a ball that was thrown right to him. Put Josh Whitesell in and DFA Clark.

And we actually traded Evan Schribner for Tony Clark. He is doing fantastically in the Padres system, if I remember right.

I'm at SDSU, and have a buddy close to Strasburg who let me know that the rumors are mostly true with the nats so far standing at $15MM with Strasburg & Boras holding firm at $30MM. For what it's worth, this guy doesn't see Strasburg going any lower than $25MM and willing to go independent for a year.

Not that that's totally reliable, just throwing it out there...

If Strasburg doesn't sign and goes to an independent league like Crow/Scheppers/Hochevar, then I think that he would blow out his shoulder, just to put everything in its right place.

And I think that I've finally gotten to the point where I can say it: THEY NEED TO SCRAP THE DRAFT.

The draft simply hinders the ability of American prospects to maximize their value, while prospects from Latin countries are allowed to immediately make as much as they can on the open market.

Just let these guys all become free agents in effect, and let them receive their market value like it is in the rest of the world.

It's not like the Yankees can sign EVERY top amateur player, which seems to be a fear of those who are in favor of the draft.

The draft, in its current form, is absolutely a broken and failing system.

FWIW, Brad Lincoln was also promoted to AAA to go along with the Alvarez story.

Lincoln's resurgence this year has to be one of the bright spots in Pittsburgh this season.

His 2.96 FIP in 75 AA innings was huge, as he showed that he's pretty much all the way back from his injuries, and he's quickly emerged as their best pitcher in the minors, although Morris and Locke can give him a run for his money.

Bryce Harper, Bryce Harper, Bryce Harper, Bryce Harper.... Might as well change the site name to bryceharper.com for the next year...............
